I realize that Howard wants to be positive and respectful about Eddie because of his death, but damn, I remember Howard making fun of the band almost every chance he got. Howard was clearly a fan of the Roth years, but he goofed on all the members of the band--and especially the during the Hagar years. He absolutely hated Van Halen with Hagar. Now, he talks about them as if he was a fan their entire career. Come on Howard, give me a break.

I'm not trying to stir up anything, but I don't know, I felt like I had to say it.

I'm more of a fan of the Roth-era music as well. I've goofed on Sammy, but I still love the guy. Hell, this band has given us much to criticize over the years, but a helluva lot more to praise. And it doesn't make me like them any less at all if I do criticize them.

Regarding Howard, yeah, I've heard him go on about the band, but I'm not going to hold him to that the day after Ed dies and he does a tribute for him. When he had them in the studio in '98, it was a weird interview. But, obviously, he loved Eddie and the band. He's had Sammy on a few times since he left VH and they've been fine.

Howard has said some pretty crappy things over the years. Dave will come in and he trashes Sammy, Sammy comes in and he trashes Dave, he's ragged on Eddie and said terrible crap about Mike. For years he's been calling Mike the chubby or fat bass player. Mike is far from being a fat bass player. It sucks that Eddie has passed and we will never see another show but I hate how people like Howard act like they were all his best friends and yet he trashed them whenever he could. I understand he wants ratings and all that crap but those interviews are around forever and will never go away. There is so much negative Eddie crap on youtube and I just want to hear positive stuff at this point. It's heartwarming to hear all the good that he did and how gracious he could be with fans. I know he was far from perfect but hearing people talk about the nice things is so cool to hear right now.

Yep. Its been a refreshing change to see him get the respect he deserves, even from people on here who were prone to calling him an asshole much too often on the forums. He was human, and made mistakes and said and did things he shouldn't have, like ALL of us do, but it is quite clear he had a big heart and was a good man who did a lot of good things for many people in this world. The world is a worse place without him in it, and not just musically.

That's about as well-said as it gets.

    Now I'm sad again.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

Reading yesterday's Rolling Stone article straight through, with all the photos of him younger and then ending the article on the 2015 one got me teared up for the first time in a while. It's the same Ed. And now he's gone.

You know, I've listened to Stern a bit over the years.

He's has some good moments. Interviews with people I'm interested in an such.

But I just don't get why he's so big. He basically got popular just doing and saying provocative things on the air.
He'd ask a celeb explicit things. Led to some cool moments, but I still don't get how he made it to the point to where he could do such interviews.

This is the same dude that did Fart Man, or whatever it was called. Mostly grade school level humor and making fun of people on a crude level. I guess there are a lot of people that enjoy that level of conversation.

People talk about Stern, but remember one thing, Rolling Stone themselves were FAR from the biggest VH fans. I'm actually wondering where they pulled their Van Halen "experts" to write the Tribute issue. Like were they locked up in a dungeon all these years, and only got to come out after October 6? Did this guy Brian Hiatt have a history with EVH?
Rolling Stone started appreciating VH during the Sammy years. I don't remember a cover with Dave (I could be wrong). Their album reviews of VH records were often negative during the 6 pack years. Now they seem to present themselves as the "VH Tribute authority." Guitar World has far more legitimacy as far as coming up with a credible tribute issue, IMO.

SNL, the writing and the cast, hasn't been funny since 2003 outside of a few here and there. It's a damn shame.
