    Default Eddie vs Jimi

I have seen a lot of comments of people comparing Eddie to Jimi but to me I have always thought that Eddie had so much more of an impact on guitar than Jimi for so many reasons. I think Eddie, like Jimi, changed the way people played guitar but that is where the comparison ends really. Eddie also changed the way people built the guitar. He created the first "Super Strat" Used the tremelo bar (Floyd) the way he did. Eddie also changed the way amps were built. He pushed gain to the max by utilizing the variac to get a sound that no one had and people still chase. He approached the guitar like no one else and never in the history of guitar did so many people scramble to try and catch up. Even his stage presence, no rockers smiled back then while doing the stuff he did. I have always thought and will continue to think that Eddie was in a league of his own. Anyway, that is just my two cents. I'm not saying that Jimi wasn't a great player and not trying to take anything away from him but I think if you look at the grand scheme of things Ed changed so much and had such a big impact it is hard to compare.

Although I love Jimi and Eddie even mimmics him w the whole amp humping thing back in 1978. It's Eddie hands down...
    There's guitar before Jimi
But there's a worldly shift of guitar after Eddie

Obviously, I think most musicians and people here will agree with you. Probably most people on the street would say Jimi. Simply because of Woodstock, name recognition and his early death.

    But you're right.

They both in some ways had a reckless abandon but Ed seemed to be a little more controlled and had a few more things up his sleeve to offer. I think they both had cool guitar tones but lets face it their is only one Brown Sound. The man knew how to get the most of out of what he had.

The was a worldly shift because of Jimi too. The guitar pedals and effects exploded after Jimi...because guitarist were chasing his sound as well.

I don’t like to say who is better...they both played straight from their heart. Both are similar to super large ships in the ocean leaving massive wakes.

Also Jimi was only a guitar God for 3 years...1967 to 1970. Who knows what more he could’ve done...he was only getting started, but that’s the bitch with life. Listen to Are You Experienced & then Band of Gypsy’s...examine that arc in 3 years. Eddie shined for 42 years. Jimi had 7% of the time Eddie had in the music world.

Without Les Paul, there would probably be no Jimi, without Jimi, there wouldn’t be Eddie. At least not the way we knew Eddie. Both trailblazers, both gone too soon.

If Jimi was around he would have passed the torch to Ed.

Can't compare. Two completely different players.
