Van Halen can continue on

I'd love to know the state of the unused ADKOT demos, do they have solos, could Dave put lyrics and vocals to them and give us one last album???

I hate it, but yes. Van Halen is gone. Love and live with the great music we have. Maybe we’ll see The Wolf Van Halen Band Maybe his uncle will ham as a special guest. But I doubt Al, Dave andr Sam will share the stage apart from a one off tribute concert.

Van Halen can live on with some posthumous live cd/DVD releases and Wolf possibly doing the odd VH lick or tune in his live show, that's what I would like to see.

I don't want to see Wolf try and become a tribute to his dad, he should carve his own path now and make his dad proud.

And Al may sit in on a few VH songs. That's probably as close as you'd get. A full VH tour? No.

Well I don't like the idea but to paraphrase a quote," there is a little VH in everybody" Plus one of my favorite sayings ever is "a person dies twice. Their physical death and when their name is spoken for the last time." Edward may be gone but his name will live on. It won't be forgotten anytime in the future. Not unless we are wiped out.

I would simply love to have a release of unreleased material. I really hope that the VH camp understands how cool that would be for us. The people that loved the music. Yeah we are a fickle bunch. We bitched about singers, bassists and keyboards. However today is a different day. I think we all realize how much of a waste of energy that was. Including myself

I have to imagine that at some point down the road, Wolf will take some of the music and work with the other VH guys to make an album as a tribute to EVH. We’ve seen so many other bands do it. He certainly doesn’t have a lack of material to work with if he wants to do something like that.

Yeah, I was thinking maybe they could do like Queen did after Freddie died. They put out "Made in Heaven" playing against vocal recordings Mercury had made when he was sick. I guess it would depend on how 'worked up' the VH tracks were. Any guitar holes could be filled in by Wolf, I'm sure.

In my opinion this would be the best gift for fans. Use EVH tapes with the best sound quality. Add bass lines and drums (or use the existing ones). Invite all three vocalist that have worked with the band over the years. Let them choose the songs they like, record vocals (or use the existing ones), and voila!

Same for ADKOT sessions, unreleased III-era and "Van Hagar" songs, vault stuff...even though I am afraid that the older recordings might be of poor sound quality but who knows?

Still, way too to early to be thinking about that.

That would definitely be the best thing to happen, & it's the only thing VH-related I'd be excited about from this point forward.

I remember in the early-mid 2000's when Ed would talk about the hours & hours of music he had at 5150. I hope Wolf & Al decide to release some of that eventually.

If they did like what they did with The Beatles, take old track tapes (or whatever medium) and fashion new songs around them, and it was Dave, Alex, and Mike, then yeah I would be into that. To me then it would still be Van Halen.

But this notion of still touring without Ed - - umm no. It would not be Van Halen to me.

Van Halen with no Eddie? I appreciate the sentiment behind your words, but come on, he was the primary member of this band. He wrote the riffs, and everything. It all originated with him. Its just not going to happen. No, I wouldn't be buying a ticket to that.

Also, Wolf would be hearing all the comparisons between him and his dad. Hell, he's probably already hearing that. I hope he releases his album, goes on tour, and has a great career.

Van Halen was an awesome ride, but now its over. Let's let it ride off into the sunset.

This band has given me more than enough. However, if the remaining members feel like releasing some stuff from Eddie that hasn't been heard before, I'll be first in line.

I'm a huge Wolfgang fan. But there's no way he's going to take over guitar duties for his father. Wolf has too much respect for his father and he's also quite clearly invested in forging his own path with his already completed album.

When Wolf is ready I'm hoping we'll get some releases from the vault - and that will be wonderful. But the band "Van Halen" has reached the final chapter of its story. Some of that spirit lives on in whatever Wolfgang, Alex, Dave or Sammy may put out in the future. But this is the end of the original band. And that's okay - all good things come to an end. Just cherish what we've got and appreciate whatever else we may get one day.

Van Halen can go on. It’s all up to Wolf. If Wolf takes over on guitar, gets Sam, Mike, and Dave on board, I’d pay to see that show. A lovefest for his pop. Why the fuck not?

Yes, of course it's too early to talk about and think about this or the vaults, I 1-zillion-percent I agree with you, Darby. I thought of the same thing Tuesday night. One tour with Wolf on guitar, Al on drums, Mike on bass, and Dave and Sammy. Extreme opening and Gary joining for a song at the end. It wouldn't be called "Van Halen" though obviously. Just a one-off to keep the music alive and we're left with WVH and VH the derivatives after that.

I know most disagree with this, and I'm not sure why because things like this happen a lot, but I honestly see it happening and am hopeful. Someday.

Outside of that I hope VH is done. Just not the same without Ed. Cannot see Al wanting to play more than one tribute show without Ed.

Van Halen will never die as the recorded music will live on for as long as humanity exists.

However, as a touring entity it ended in 2015. And that's okay. You cannot go out and call yourself Van Halen without Ed, and I have no doubt that Al and Wolf would never do such a thing.

I could see Al joining Wolf's band for a couple VH songs as a tribute here or there at a show if he ever puts together a touring band for his own music.

But the band Van Halen is done.

I would go. And I would feel good about it if it was a happy occasion for the band members looking back with a smile on their face, a celebration of Eddie in effect.

If Wolf said I want to carry on this music one more time for the fans, for my dad, FOR ME, for closure. Let's go out and have a party every time we play this year for my dad. I would go and be a part of that emotion without a doubt. A party celebrating Ed. This of course is something that would only happen a ways from now. After everyone has moved on from pain to the next stage of someone passing, smiles and memories remembering Ed.

That won’t ever happen. And it’s not just up to Wolfgang, there are other people involved and I don’t think any of them want to move forward without Ed. These are men in their 70s or almost their 70s, I don’t think they have a reason to do anything else as Van Halen.

Also, I don’t know about anybody else but I honestly don’t want to see any version of Van Halen that doesn’t have Ed on guitar. That’ll never be anything for me.

I don’t understand why we just can’t accept that it’s over. I think we have to. The king has left the building. Everything ends guys.

Al will never perform onstage again without Ed. I just don't ever see him doing that. And VH would NEVER be VH without either Ed OR Al for me.
