Default Azoff Confirms Van Halen was to reunite with Michael Anthony

Stories coming out the 2019 tour was also to include both Sammy and Dave.

    Azoff blurb below.

    https://loudwire.com/manager-confirm...chael-anthony/

There were plenty of rumors floating around in 2019 about a Van Halen tour that would reunite them with longtime bassist Michael Anthony, but then it never happened. In a new chat with Pollstar, band manager Irving Azoff confirms that the talk was legit, but that Eddie Van Halen's health altered their plans.

“We had lots of stops and starts, but there was every intention of doing a summer stadium tour (in 2019), and as the cancer moved around, [Van Halen] was physically unable to do it,” Azoff says. The manager revealed there was even talk of having major acts like Foo Fighters and Metallica appear with them in select cities, adding, “There is no doubt in my mind that it would have been massive.”

Anthony was with Van Halen through their most successful period, but when the band reunited with singer David Lee Roth in 2006, Eddie's son Wolfgang became the band's bassist while Anthony continued his working relationship with former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar.

Reflecting on his time with the late guitarist, Azoff stated, “You get this image of this bombastic, incredible, loud, prodigy, but personally, he had a big heart. He did a lot of things for a lot of people that nobody knows about.”

He added, “I probably can’t speak as well as others have spoken over the last 24 hours as to Ed’s musical genius, but Ed the human being, especially as he had to come to grips with being human, really shined. He was a great father.”

Azoff continued that the "rock 'n' roll life" led to some of his health complications but posited, "I’ve never seen anybody fight the fight that [Van Halen] fought over the last 10 years, fighting the cancer.”

As for the possibility of more Van Halen material, Azoff said he was unsure what might come out. “Wolf and Alex will go up to 5150, the studio in Ed’s house, but there’s been a lot of recording over the years. I can’t predict that for sure there will be anything new, but for sure they’re going to look at it,” he concludes.

It's bittersweet to know how close we came, but I'm taking a positive from all of this - it truly seems that all the fences were mended and grudges were buried between the VH camp and Mikey, Sam, Dave, everyone. I'm glad that as the end came, Eddie was surrounded by love and friendship.

    Fuck Cancer.

Again I just find a lot of happiness knowing that it appears differences were patched up. Thatís the one thing I always said on this website that I didnít want anyone going to the grave with a grudge. Thereís nothing positive that comes from cancer or watching someone you care about suffer from it but I will try to glean something positive from it, that it mended fences for all.

Speaking of the Foo's, anyone know if Grohl has said anything about Eddie's passing?

That was excruciating to read how close they came, but we already knew this because Dave said and Mike admitted he was called. Still painful nonetheless.

It's nice to know Ed was able to make peace with everyone before he passed on.
That's actually very comforting to know.
ďAnd what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever Ė that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both Ė thatís intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.Ē - David Lee Roth

At the risk of sounding corny, or overly sentimental, I am really glad that it all came together - that the hatchets were buried, before EVH's passing.
Our hearts' are with you Wolf, Al, and Janie; blessings upon you all.

I saw that. Sounds like a tour with Roth, Hagar and Mike and maybe Gary on some nights could have happened. Maybe even a studio album with all three eras of Van Halen on it which would have been epic could have been possible. So sad really. I didn't know that Nuno and Ed chatted or were friends.

Nuno though needs to get that new Extreme album out by the end of the year, do it for Eddie. I need some brilliant guitar to hear to end this crappy year. Hopefully with Ed's passing it inspires him to do so. This pandemic is going to go on for years so release the album and let the fans and new fans get acquainted with it than tour for it when you can or able to. I would love to hear Extreme cover a Van Halen song to end the new album as a bonus track and tribute to Ed.

That was cool to read but also a bit depressing. It reinforces the opinion that every day is precious and shouldn’t be wasted on negative petty personal grievances. They could have pulled off such a grand final reunion years ago.

I'm glad that it seems like Eddie patched things up with everyone. Life is too short and these guys made too much magic to stay upset at each other.

Now I just want to say this--Fucking cancer is right! Considering that this is a roughly 45 year old band, the fanbase is getting up there in years too. Get checked! Sure, there is treatment available and some cancers are worse than others, but EARLY DETECTION is the key to beating cancer. Your odds of survival are dramatically increased by catching it when its small. My dad just beat prostate cancer because he was getting regular check ups. Yes, it sucks going to the doctor, but its better than the alternative. Get checked everyone!

Now back to rocking Van Halen.
