Remembering Edward Van Halen

I'd prepared myself for this, with his cancer, kind of like with STP and Scott Weiland's drug addiction. Both bands meant a lot to my youth and my relationship with music.

But this isn't about me. It's about his family and friends and I feel for them. This battle had to be exhausting and at least there is some peace to be had, now. This has gone on nearly 20 years at this point. He lasted a lot longer than many would have, and this fight is probably just as impressive as anything he recorded.

Absolutely in shock.

Thanks to everyone on this board for helping to fill in the long gaps between real VH news over the past many, many years. I've never been a regular but when it occurs to me to stop by, I always enjoyed the experience. Sadly, we are in a whole new reality now and every conversation and argument that has been had on these boards now has a form of closure that I don't think any of us anticipated or gave any thought to. Until now.

Like I put on social, Van Halen was part of just about all of my "firsts", playing in the background of my entire life. I appreciate the enormous gift of music he's provided to me personally, the friendships intertwined, the memories of concerts, trying like hell to do some of the impossible things he did on guitar for hours in my office and failing miserably for the most part ending in frustration and even more awe of his talent.

Easily the most impact to me personally of any celebrity passing, by exponential amounts really.

RIP Ed/Eddie/Edward.
