I just watched the first hour of that Philly 98 show, but I had to stop because watching these vids late at night really starts to hit hard. I'll finish that awesome show later. Still can't believe he's gone.
I have a bootleg from the 98 tour. During middle of show Ed,Al and Mike break into the intro of Into the Void !! Totally awesome moment.

That would be a sight to see considering she has been dead for 17 years herself.

Nice! Thats my favorite Sabbath tune, and I believe Ed may have said it was his favorite by them at one time. Soundgarden did a great cover of it in the early 90s, too.

Yeah, that 98 tour was just awesome, IMO. People can mock it or hate it, I dont care, the band was on fire and inspired like they hadn't been since around 88 and the setlist destroyed every Hagar era tour.

Have spent waayyyy too much time on YouTube the last few weeks watching countless clips of Ed and VH. It cannot be stated enough what a monumental loss this is. There will never be another. Not even close.

I still canít believe heís gone.

With the exception of 5150 or Summer Nights ( which I never heard live), the rest are worn OUT. They RARELY played a deep cut with Sam. No Source of Infection, AFU (since 91), Black and Blue, Sucker in a Three Piece, Cabo Wabo, Pleasure Dome, Get Up, Summer Nights, Good Enough, Feel So Good, The Dream is Over, etc. Just the radio hits geared more toward the casual fan. I give Wolfgang tremendous credit for putting together three great setlists for the last three tours. Some staples in there, yes. But, a changing mix of classic deep cuts as well. Hagar always played it "safe", meaning the same old, same old with few exceptions. Hell, they played more cover tunes with Sam than they did deep cuts. When it was all I had, I loved it. But, once Gary and then Dave were in the band...the sets were phenomenal. If I had experienced THAT at the age of 17...forget about it. God knows what would have happened to me. 😂😂
I liked the Gary tour a lot, as i said. The band was on fire, and I loved the mixed setlist. In my mind, itís the last time I saw the Mighty Van Halen as a real, active, kick-ass rock band.

Saw them twice with Dave in the second run with him, them quit going to shows. Because they werenít great shows. I had seen them at their absolute peak, and those efforts werenít in the same ballpark for me.

Even though my favorite show I ever saw with VH was with Sam, I agree the setlists could have been better. Of the songs you mention, I saw them play 5150, Summer Nights, AFU, Black and Blue, Cabo Wabo, Get Up, Good Enough, The Dream is Over, Mine All Mine, and I think Pleasure Dome if I remember correctly at one time or another. The Sam tours were more about playing a significant amount of songs off the record they had just released, and then some hits, and a cover or two. It felt pretty typical of most of the bands I saw live that had a significant list of hits. They have to play them for the casual fans (almost all of the fans in attendance).

What really disappointed me about the 2004 tour, which is the worst VH show(s) Iíve ever seen, was kind of the obvious, all hits setlist. They should have really mixed it up on that tour, in my opinion. There was no new album to support/promote, and that was their chance to do a much more diverse setlist. They played a few more Dave tunes, but nothing really deep cutish or super surprising (maybe SGMAD as the exception). The only thing more disappointing than the setlist on that tour was the train wreck that was EVH at the time.

I saw VH 6 times after the year 2000, and I felt like none of the shows were even close to the VH shows Iíd seen previously. Sure wish Iíd have gotten to see more Dave shows in their first run together. Was just a bit too young. Feel fortunate that I got to see the 1984 tour, at least.

Yes, I know Dave would never sing a Sammy song, and agree there were very few he could sing anyways. Hell, Dave had a hard enough time singing his own stuff. Doesn’t change my opinion of the type of VH show I’d prefer to see, one that covered their entire catalog. Gary is really the only guy that ever delivered on that, IMO.
    SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS

"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls

"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red
