I think that’s true for most of the world, that image is what he’s always been portrayed as everywhere. You’ll always see that image.

Yeah that is not authentic 1979 artwork or anything. Way too much Photoshop stuff going on there.

For a band that broke up a little over a year later, Dave, Ed, Mike and Al sure looked like they were having a lot of fun in the video for Jump.

Me too. I know I saw the Unchained video before Jump, but seeing Jump is what flipped the switch to be such an (Eddie) Van Halen fan.

Yeah obviously the Unchained video was out there for a little while before, but it was a much different thing when Jump premiered. It was a much different phenomenon in 1984, and videos had a much different place three years later.

The videos for Jump, Panama and Hot For Teacher helped launch Van Halen to the pinnacle of the rock & roll mountain in 1984. I still hear those 3 songs on the radio all the time.

Summer of 84, EVERYONE was listening to Jump, Panama and the whole 1984 record. Not just the metal or guitar crowd, everyone. I remember two things from that summer, VH and Springsteen Born In The USA. At tennis camp we were all air-guitaring the panama riff with our tennis rackets.
The following year, RUN DMC started getting big, songs like My Addidas. Ppl were trading Eddie Murphy stand up comedy tapes. Good times.

    Tennis camp?

    You still play?

...and “Panama”...and “Hot For Teacher”... what a shell shock to come less than a year later...
