If you factor in all the deaths since 9-11 from cancer due to all the exposure to the dust etc it easy twice the number. Rip to all the victims.

Still remember that morning like it was yesterday. Probably the most surreal day of my life... and I'm just a regular guy in Ohio seeing it unfold on radio and TV.

I happened to be in Ohio for work that day. Woke up in a hotel outside Columbus and was driving to Washington Court House with my coworker when the first plane hit. I was envisioning a Cessna or other small aircraft. Then the announced the second hit and it was an immediate "oh shit" moment.

I was listening to Howard Stern when they reported what they thought to be a small plane had hit a building. Drove around town that day doing service calls and every business you went to all had a TV or radio on and everyone was in a weird funk.

    Man, 19 fuckin' years already.

We will never forget that terrible day. Upon hearing the news, I think everyone's initial reaction was that a small plane hit the WTC. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

I'll never forget my cute co-worker came in to tell me a plane just hit the Trade Center. I was in the middle of something and kind of dismissed her with "oh, that sucks." But, yeah, when the 2nd one hit we all knew, and I think by that time we learned that the first one was a commercial airliner that hit. Then the Pentagon. I remember hearing on the news that many more planes were supposedly flying over on similar missions. Just a fucked up day.

There are a couple of new 9/11 docs on tonight--History channel or Nat Geo, DVR is set.

I also remember no one knowing how many planes were unaccounted for.....dozens more planes crashing into other cities around the US seemed like a real possibility in those first several hours.

    Default 9/11 - Never Forget

I’ll never forget getting out of school that day (Grade 8), having not heard anything. Our teacher did a good job of keeping us completely isolated from it. Looking back on it, I’ll always remember that she wasn’t quite her bubbly self that day and it seemed like something was definitely wrong with her. Part of me wishes she told us because it was history happening. I learned later that other classes watched on TV what was going on, but not ours.

Getting into my Dad’s car seeing me biting my nails he asked me, “Are you nervous about what happened??” I was a nail biter. I said, “No, what happened?”. He told me YYZ was shut down due to something that happened in NYC. Told me the World Trade Centres were hit by planes. I had never heard of the WTC Towers. The most I knew about NYC was it was where Home Alone 2 was shot.

My Mom worked at the terminals as a customs officer and my first thought was something was going to happen to her. I called her as soon as I got home to make sure she was okay. To this day, she says she’s never seen so many planes on the tarmac grounded at one time.

Then, with my Dad watching with me, I learned about Al-Qaeda and the pure evil we humans could inflict on others. The images were straight out of a Schwarzenegger movie, is what I was thinking. I had seen violence in movies since I was young. My parents didn’t really shelter me from that stuff, too much.

But seeing this was different. It didn’t seem real but it definitely was. It was beyond comprehension for a 13 year old.

It still is in many ways and I’m now 32.

To see a nation rally like the US did after that was and always will be inspiring.

Yes I remember today vividly . I remember going to work and seeing a blurb about WTC on fire from a small plane hit. Ok. Then the day unfolded and everybody at work was mostly in shock. I do recall a few people who were Middle Eastern commenting in the lunch room that it was somewhat deserving due to our actions in the Middle East. They politely were reminded to be sensitive so thankfully they decided not to push it. I also remember a friend of mine who worked there was supposed to be going to Vegas that afternoon. People were saying "you are actually still going?" and he actually said "what they cant' shut the airlines down" which of course is exactly what they did.

The next day as my wife and I drove around I told her to look up in the sky. It was the first day in our lives where there were no contrails appearing.

A few weeks later, we found out or owner was coming home from Europe on 9-11 so they had to divert his plane to I think Newfoundland. He had to stay there for a week or two so when he got back, he had some all hands meetings to describe his experience. Talked about the entire flight became close during their stay. He was an older Jewish man and he befriended several Middle Eastern people and even some Evangelical Christians. Everybody became friends and he said it was such a lovely coming together moment. He actually broke down crying while he retold the story. Anyway it was nice to have experienced that sense that we were all Americans regardless of party, color, gender preference, etc

THen we had to go into Iraq.....

I remember going outside and seeing a B-2 bomber taking off over the skies of Dayton. Scary stuff.
