Default Unedited Live W/O A Net - 1986 MTV Awards

I only have a few post but this has been my regular go to site for all things Van Halen since it’s inception. Big thank you to Brett and any others responsible.

I’ve been looking quite some time for this airing of Best of Both Worlds from the 1986 MTV music awards. It’s obvious this became the footage of Live Without A Net.

I have not seen this posted anywhere before (I’ve seen the small clip of Addicted to Love here and there), so I finally started my first thread at VHlinks!! If for some reason it has been posted before or somewhere else that I am unaware of, please feel free to delete this thread.

    Thank you again Brett.

I just realized the link takes you to the beginning (there are two parts) Just click on part 2 and the Van Halen segment is right at the beginning.

That was the song that made me think Van Halen is going to be just fine without Dave

I wish they put the entire concert on LWAN. They also played YRGM, Good Enough, Dreams and I know Wild Thing was played at one of the New Haven, err New Halen, shows. Shame they weren't part of the concert video.

“You really got me” opened the whole Tour except for the night of filming. It was instead moved to the end of the set, and “One way...”opened. I’m glad they did cause it was the perfect opener on the the vhs/DVD.

Hey- I just wanted to say thanks for posting this link. Much appreciated.

I scrolled through & watched a few tidbits of the whole MTV broadcast....kinda neat to see the time warp back to what used to be the future...haircuts, clothes, haha....Robert Palmer smoking a cigarette on the live tv...don't see that anymore....

But...at the beginning they list the artists appearing & David Lee Roth's name was listed & supposedly appearing from Arkansas....is what it said???....so I scrolled & scrolled but couldn't find it...???...Motley Crue as well....

Guess I'll have to give it another try at another time....

But- I the main reason I wanted to thank you is for the actual link to that " Archive Wayback Machine",...I've long wanted to surf around in there to see what's there but never got around to it always seemed too hard & couldn't figure it out....I didn't realize they had full MTV shows & other videos...thats a very cool find you posted....

I typed " Van Halen " into the search function & so far only found this one cool thing to me....

    Look at this....

It's a full paperback book from 1984 we can read...I haven't read it yet have to register first but I bookmarked the link for later....look at the pic on the back cover...I hadn't seen that one before & missed out on ever seeing this book so its something kinda cool to check out.

    Here's the link......

Good stuff. You are always on top of this VH stuff. Haha. There's quite a few I didn't know about at the time & notice nowdays surfing the net. I like running across these kinda full book & magazine links. PDF's & stuff. Rarely anything mindblowing but cool to check out.

One old publication in particular I'm extremley curious to get is the QUI 1981 issue with the DLR interview where he mentions filming the videos. Which confused a lot of folks thinking there was an unreleased road movie project filmed on the 1980 tour....but no...I've surmised he was just commenting about the 1979 Rochester live concert videos. ( YNG, DTNA, & BU), but also may of been talking about the sleazy backstage hijinks also recorded as mentioned in Noel Monks book.

I did find & order the magazine 5 or 6 years ago through Ebay but it failed to arrive. No idea what happened. Either mail fraud or something to do with nudie magazines crossing borders. IDK. Ugh. I'm probably the only one in the world who did in fact actually buy the nudie magazine for the articles. Haha. Gotta find another copy I want to see & read it with my own eyes.

Ok- Peace out brother Dave from Pittsburg. Stay frosty.

Yeah I'm a gung ho motherfucker. I have a lot of those old books because a record store in downtown sold them back in the '90s, and a number of them I got on eBay years after. They probably still have some of them.

And didn't know that rumored 1980 road film (the true Holy Grail) came from that interview! If what you're saying is right then there's definitely no chance of it ever seeing the light of day damn it!

I must say I can't watch LWAN in any objective fashion. Too many memories, good ones, are linked to it. It brings you back immediately. I think it's also because for a band known for its infighting and drama, it's the most intense display of friendship available on film from the guys. Might have been different if they had filmed the early days. But now we have all the negative stuff we know of, and then there's LWAN with such amazing camaraderie. Wonderful concert video. The BOBW walk!

If memory serves me correctly, Dave and his band listed some nominees and named the winner for a category.

Another reason why this is the best site for VH shit. I did not know this. Probably could have done some homework and found it out, but that's awesome. Out.
