I still remember the cheerleaders dancing to this one during one of their routines at an assembly in the fall of 1978, my freshman year of high school ...

nope... that is pre-Dave era, DLR didn't join the band until 2012. the lead singer on that album was Barry Cheroke - although vocal duties on that particular track were handled by Van Halen's guitarist (forgot his name.)

I was 8 years old, saw Hot For Teacher on MTV. MIND BLOWN sonically, visually, emotionally, and probably my first boner...

Mine wasn't even a Van Halen song. My parents had "Thriller" on vinyl. I wasn't particularly a fan. But, Beat It....I remember moving the needle on the record back, and, back, and back just to hear the guitar solo. It made my hair stand up. That tone! The way the highs scintillate and twinkle with over-driven electric heroin. Those snarls and growls. I was ten years old. It felt like it reached through my ears, took hold of my brain and squeezed. Lol I'll never forget. I had NO clue who the guitarist was, only that he was a god. I even called him the "God-tarist". My house was a not a "rock" house. Whatever was on the radio was the limit of my exposure. Of course I came to know the 1984 radio hits. But, it wasn't until years later in high school that I became SCHOOLED on VH through friends, and Romeo Delight crisped my bacon. That was it. Done.

Mine was Jump, I was in the 8th grade and I seen the video. From the moment I seen that baby faced smile (see icon pic) I was like "Oh...my...god" I thought he was the coolest thing on the planet.

Mine was Eruption. I had heard Jump but it was Eruption that bit me.

I was with a mate and we had been smoking something we should not of been smoking () and we were talking about how cool it would be to able to play guitar. After a while, we went back to his house and he snuck into his brothers room and came back with an album.

    "Check this out" he said.

He puts on side one, song 2. I was absolutely blown away... I made him play it about 20 times in a row. Last time he played it, YRGM came on and I said " I didnt know VH sung that", thinking it was the original...

A couple weeks later, he calls me telling me that his brother gave him a bunch of albums including 2 VH ones that he didnt want and wanted to know if I wanted to trade with him.. I traded my Black Sabbath Greatest Hits album for both VH1 and DD. I still have them too.

    Best trade ever!

That was in January 1985. I was 13 going on to 14...
If you have nothing nice to say about Eddie Van Halen, you're at the right website. - Me (A few years ago)

"People take Van Halen much more seriously than we do" - David Lee Roth (1980's)

"I don't sit on the end of your bed while you're trying to make a living" - David Lee Roth (1988)

"For some reason people love to complain about everything. The internet has made it easy for people to do that. Shut the fuck up and get a life, or show me how good you can do it."- Edward Van Halen

"A lot of people ask me which Van Halen singer was better. You can't compare them. It's like asking which guitarist is better. Nobody is better than anybody. Every player is their own person."-Edward Van Halen

"I do like Eddie Van Halen as a player. He gets it right quite often." -Paul McCartney
