That made you a Van Halen fanatic? My life was never the same after the first time I heard these 103 seconds blaring out of a blue Camaro in a parking lot in front of a taco stand near the intersection of Telegraph Road and Colima Road in Whittier, CA 42 years ago ...

The riff now known as “Out the Window” on the “Edward Van Halen” tape in Back to the Future is what tipped me off to Eddie.

Then based on that I downloaded “You Really Got Me” and thought - “yup, that’s how I want to play guitar”

It wasn’t the song that made me a VH lunatic, but the first VH song I remember hearing on the radio was Dance The Night Away.

i was maybe 11 years old, and that was the song that got me to buy VH, and VH II.
    SOME VH LINKS CLASSICS

"Sammy is fat, Dave is bald, Mike is next in line to be the Pope, Eddie is a drunk, Wolfie is fat, Gary is gay, CVH is VH, Mike is VH, Sammy can outsing Dave on a tequilla hangover, Eddie is a meth head, How Many Say I is the worst VH song ever, Up for Breakfast is a close second, Dave was horrible at radio and everybody hates the assless chaps.
Ok I think that covers everything." Ziggysmalls

"I sense that some of our newer passengers may be nervous due to the sudden turbulence. Please be seated, this is simply a normal part of the periodic ride.
I didn't say we'll get to the destination, but until Alex comes out a says what a complete waste of carbon DLR is, we're still climbing, so strap yourselves in.
Those of you who have been on this ride before, the hottie in the mini will be around shortly with your drinks......." Red

    Thumbs up

Dance the Night Away was the 1st tune that I listened to from The Mighty One.

    Mine was the 1984 album.
Some kid brought a copy in during a music theory class when I was in year 9 at high school.
I remember thinking "what the fuck is this?"
It blew my mind. The whole album.
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

Yeah, it was probably Eruption. But really the whole first album did it. I just remember my neighbor had the album and introduced me to this new band. I recall Atomic Punk really stood out to me at the time. And this was a couple years after it actually came out. But Eruption was, and still is, a special experience.

I'm not ashamed to admit that it was Jump for me. I was 11 and my older brother wasn't into VH so I never heard them before to my knowledge. If I had it was in passing. That song got me to buy 1984, which was just the third CD I ever bought with my own money, and within a few years Jump was pretty much my 176th favorite VH song. Lol

Was taking a ride with my brother in his car, and this little diddy came on the radio. I loved it, he later that year took me to see them at the old Capital Center for one of the two famous Largo '82 shows, and that was it.

If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I always liked VH since I was a kid. I owned 1984 and my older brother had a couple tapes before me, but I was always into The Crue, the Whitesnake, etc. until the late '80s/early '90s when I got sick of rock somehow. Got into rap and new jack swing for less than a year because that's what was cool in junior high. When that didn't last I just lost interest in music altogether for a year or so.

Then Christmas break 1991 during my sophomore year my older brother got a discman and subscribed to Columbia House and BMG for his Xmas presents. First time I ever listened to a CD. Popped in FUCK, heard "Poundcake," fell in love immediately, and the rest was history. I remember hearing the FUCK songs on the radio and seeing the videos on MTV the prior summer, but that's when it hit and connection happened.

Then instantly bought every album, learned the songs right away because all I did was listen to them non-stop, bought the t-shirts, the posters, Dave and Sammy solo albums, then was the introduction to bootlegs, and on and on...
