    Default Missed opportunity album releases

I’ve always thought VH could’ve had a couple of more albums in their canon if they had of played their cards right. Not necessarily studio albums, but I have read a show from the “OU812” tour was recorded for a live album, which was at the Peoria Civic centre, Illnois on 11/7/88.
That would’ve been perfect for a ‘89 release, where is we had a gap of 3 years without a release.
I also loved the Bridge benefit show in late ‘93. Imagine a live unplugged set of just Sammy and Eddie doing some gems and covers in a intimate setting like what Clapton did.
Warner wanted a studio album in late ‘93 too, but the band said it was too soon and opted for the live album instead and toured for it.

So many wasted opportunities here? I don’t want to bring up the whole box set subject again, cause it’s been done to death, but it’s baffling we never got an official live vhs release from the Roth years considering Roth had such a colourful persona on stage. I read also there was a show filmed after Dave rejoined in ‘06.

If they put everything else on the back burner and pulled a few all-nighters, I think they could have wedged an album in sometime between 1998 and 2012. It would have been a slapdash production under that kind of time pressure, but theoretically possible.

Yep. The MSG show from the 07/08 tour is professionally done and paid for, just never released. Reportedly Ed wasn't happy with his playing on it.

Has a familiar ring to it.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

Whether you loved or hated VHIII, another one or two albums with Gary in the 99-early 04 era would be better than the net total of zero songs from VH in that time, in fact, the newer Cherone stuff was said to be miles better than anything on III.

Also, instead of doing Tokyo Dome, VH could've pulled off another studio album 2015-2016, given the treasure trove of demos from back in the day that they could reuse.

The breaks taken in between some of the Sammy albums were necessary--I believe--for the health of the band, and Sam may have left earlier had it not been for taking a break between OU812 and F.U.C.K. or between F.U.C.K. and RHRN/Balance
There's a thin line between genius and insanity. I like to dance on it.

"It's all success if it's what you need. Do what you like and do it honestly"

"If you want to be a rock star or just be famous, then run down the street naked, you'll make the news or something. But if you want music to be your livelihood, then play, play, play and play! And eventually you'll get to where you want to be." RIP EVH

I think I read this in Malcolm Domes book Access All Areas, the band was supposed to record a live record with Dave on either the WACF tour or the FW tour but before they started recording shows Ed and Dave got into an altercation and Ed tried to hit Dave, Dave moved Ed hit the wall and broke something in his hand. anybody else ever hear that story?

personally, and Ed would hate it today but I always thought it would be cool if they released the audio from the opening of the Cabo Wabo Cantina, they band was great, MTV was there so it was filmed and I'm sure there was quality audio of it. I just think at the time it would have been really cool. just my opinion.

It was on the Diver Down tour, IIRC, that Ed broke his hand.

That was why whenever Ed and Al got into their brawls Alex was said to always make sure and protect Ed's hands while he was pummeling his little brother.

I don't know what Ed was thinking. Dave was training in martial arts for some time, ed was totally untrained as a fighter......I mean I would be so f'n embarrassed if that happened to me. how do you throw a punch that hard and totally miss....c'mon Ed, lol.

Imagine what a Linker (not the ones that give this site a bad wrap), a Vanhalenologist if you will, and a good producer could do if we were given access to the vault inside 5150.

I really thought that Wolf was going to do that. He must've gotten his hands slapped.
