Your top 10 Sam-era VH songs?
Inspired by Wild Ranger, I came up with yet another “what's your favorite” thread.
1 Good Enough
- I like everything about it, the solo, licks, especially: harmonic licks at 0:37 and 0:45, and the outro starting at 3:45
2 Judgement Day
- this is just straightforward rock; plus the "Mad Pianist" Solo.
3 AFU
- mainly due to tap harmonic intro.
4 Big Fat Money
- unusual jazz inspiration, lick at 2:19, and outro from 3:31, the tap and bend at 3rd and 11th fret A string (intro solo) reminds me the very end of Good Enough outro solo, plus the lick right after the solo reminds me Judgement Day-style tapping interlude.
5 Summer Nights
- intro and awesome vocals from Sam, harmonic outro at 4:36.
6 Get Up
- so 80s. All those whammy bar dives, Al and Ed intro, the unstoppable rhythm, and if you are really into Michael Anthony (Sobolewski) backing vocals, check out his screams, especially durin the outro. Pure crazy and on the verge of good taste and hitting the wrong note.
7 Humans Being
- this extended solo section alone makes the difference.
8 Source of Infection
- it simply is Hot for Teacher vol. 2. It really is.
9 Poundcake
- the best call and response song by Sam and Ed?
10 Best of Both Worlds
- with all the cliches of its time and style, yet delivering the goods"If you ever speak to me like that again, you better be wearing a cup" - EVH, 1996
"Stupid neighbors called the cops/Now the party's over/Angry housewife wants my name/Tell her it's 'Ben Dover"
Sammy Hagar made Van Halen even better. Deal with it.
