Default The Alex Van Halen appreciation thread

I don't recall ever seeing a thread in Main devoted specifically to the other Van Halen brother. Let's talk about Eddie's big bro and his contributions to the band and its overall sound.

Jungle Drummer is probably the biggest Alex Van Halen fan I have ever encountered. I would love to hear his thoughts on what makes Alex his favorite drummer.

Said this before. If you listen to any of Eds work without Al on drums it loses something. Ed knows it too.

In the early days he was the wild, crazy one. Then in the early 90's, he just became cool.

Oh, and he's a pretty good drummer too.

I think there's a lot more musicianship with Al, too. I always dug his "Drum Struck"/"You & Me" solo where he plays against his pre-recordings in concert.

Al is a beast. He had a unique sound as a rock n roll drummer. He's one of the best ever in the biz.

Which makes "Doin' Time" as his official release drum solo such a head scratcher.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

That what I love the most. His sound! Or sounds. Each record was a new experience just like Ed's guitar tones. All the greats have a unique sound and he created a killer one.

Nice! I definitely dont know anyone who loves the guy as much as I do. But I gotta hit the hay, 4:15 is fast approaching. I'll chime in on this thread when I have more time.

I'll never understand people's hate of Doin Time, other than it ends right as he's starting to cook. He's really starting to blaze the last 30-40 seconds and then it's over. I wouldve liked it to be a minute or two longer.

Both he and Ed have never sounded the same on any two albums, which is pretty difficult to do, let alone through twelve albums. People mock the phrase, but honestly, both brothers were tone chasers literally.
