    Default VH Unreleased Songs Thread

There has been a lot of discussion of unreleased VH lately, and I thought it would be cool to have one spot in which we can discuss unreleased VH tracks, post YouTube videos or attach MP3's, etc.

    I'll start.

The first known studio recordings of VH, it is a short demo tape, with the following track listing:

    Angel Eyes 2:51
    Believe Me 2:46
    Simple Rhyme 3:38
    Take Your Whiskey Home 3:43

It is reported that this is still Mark Stone on bass, and by listening to them, especially the background vocals, I think it is, but I queried Greg Renoff to make sure.

If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

A man's rights rests in three boxes: the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

I was pointed to this on Twitter, had no idea that this was done.

Just like the instrumental version of Not Enough that came out, being able to hear Tell the Truth without vocals really brings out how great Jason Becker was.

Clarification, it was Mark Stone on the Cherokee Studios demos.

    Thanks!

I still wish Angel Eyes had made it onto an album. Always liked that tune. Different for Dave.

I don’t know if it’s the age of the tape but I always noticed that Ed used the phaser so much on those old songs. I mean they’re on even the all the rhythm stuff. I’m thinking it’s the age of the tape that is creating that swirly effect but it does sound like a Phase 90 doing it.

I felt it would have been a good B side. Doesn't really fit onto any of their albums with Dave in my opinion.

It was definitely very different than anything else they ever recorded with Dave. Very folky with an almost Zeppelinesque vibe.

A bit more of a serious tone lyrically for Dave.

I wonder if the '79 version was just him or if it was a band effort?

Yeah, I always loved it. Gave the tunes more of a psychedelic feel. I just figured over time he decided to just use it less as he got older and they were playing more and more gigs.

How this sucker never made it onto an official release is mind boggling.
