Default Bang The Trash Can Slowly - the 2020 MLB thread*

Frankly at the end of the day this season doesnít mean shit anyway. Itís a 60-game season without fans in a fucked up world. Itís not going to count for much anyway. In typical Dodgers fashion, this will probably be the one they finally win. The one that means nothing.

I can see that neutral site approach as fair but if teams are playing in their own ballparks now (except the Blue Jays) why can't that continue in the postseason? I understand they're trying to minimize risk, and with no fans what's the difference? But it just doesn't seem right. Nothing does in this crazy fucked up year.

I don't care for the seedings of these teams either. After the top 3 division winners in each league, they should all be wild cards.
i think the difference is there will be less movement from teams other than from the hotel to the ball park and back. Less chance of a team pulling a Marlins and mucking the whole thing up with a 'Rona outbreak.

Just hope this thing is under control by next year.

Yeah, I get that...regarding the travel, and having the bubbles.
But I still think the seedings are ridiculous. The Astros have a losing record but because they're in 2nd place in the terrible west division, they avoid being an actual wildcard team, despite 2 teams having better records seeded lower than them.

Can’t argue with you there. Of course, I’m the guy that thinks they should go back to two divisions per league and if the two division winners aren’t enough, take the next two teams by record, regardless of division.

Yup. And that's what I'm going to be falling back on if/when the Yanks are eliminated.

20 years from now few will remember the how.

They will just see another world series flag in Dodger Stadium.

it'll be interesting to see how things pan out with the no-break series. I think managers won't be so quick to yank that starter when a runner reaches second.

I don't plan to listen to/watch as many games as I normally do however - probably only pay attention to any games the Marlins or Rays might participate in, at least until the final rounds. Too many teams, too many games!

They are ending the crazy rules once post season starts, correct?

It should be. But with the Dodgers' recent postseason struggles (aside from the Astros cheating), there are no guarantees.

This would have been a good year to put some $$ down on the Marlins. Shortened season, odds would have been decent and they have a good young team. They just played a 7 game series against Philly. 7 games! (3 were makeups).

Did we expect the White Sox to have the best record in the AL?

that seven game series was played over five days - a different starter for each of the seven games - not sure that's ever happened before in any kind of seven game series - not that outside of the post season there have been a lot to choose from!

No I know. Few people remember the Dodgers won the 1981 World Series that was during a strike season, except us serious fans like the guys here. No one has really questioned that championship. I donít know I just think this one is different because it was really a nothing season. I mean 60 games is nothing. The Dodgers just played their 50th game of the season today and theyíve clinched a playoff berth. That just sounds silly.

I did hear that the Dodgers had absolutely no celebration today. Thankfully they finally figured out that these meaningless milestone celebrations are silly. Especially for a team that has been to the playoffs 8 straight years and has been one of the favorites to win a title for probably five or six years in a row now.

Yeah, if it was a 162 game schedule, I wouldn't even be worried about the Nats.

    I remember it.

But in 1981 they only missed what, 1/3 of the season? But other than that, everything else was normal. Normal schedule, normal travel, fans in the stands.

Yeah this year the championship will still count, as it should, but there is a much bigger feeling of this being an asterisk year. At least this year if your team gets eliminated it won't be as heartbreaking, right? If the Yanks get bounced I may even feel an ever so slight amount of relief.
