Yeah this year the championship will still count, as it should, but there is a much bigger feeling of this being an asterisk year. At least this year if your team gets eliminated it won't be as heartbreaking, right? If the Yanks get bounced I may even feel an ever so slight amount of relief.
The playoffs weren't normal - four teams in each league instead of two and the two division winners in the National League - the Cardinals and the Reds didn't make the playoffs because they didn't finish first in either half of the season.

Orioles have actually had a few bright spots in this mini season. They have a few bats maybe 2 decent young arms. In a full season they may get 3rd place.

The Yanks just tied a MLB record with 5 HR's in one inning. Kinda surprised there was never more than 5 hit in an inning.

They had back-to-back-to-back, strikeout, back-to-back. I'm sure Aaron Hicks, who struck out, got some ribbing about that.

In 20 innings (so far) this series against Toronto, NY has hit 18 HR's.

Not bad for a team that could barely scrape a run or two a couple weeks ago.
Better lineup and guys starting to get going has helped.

is it just me, or is there a higher incidence of ridiculous scores these days? Is it related at all to the seeming inability of some of these umpires to accurately call balls and strikes?

I believe many veteran umps opted out for this exhibition season thing?

oh, I'm certain some have, but even some of the regulars aren't that good behind the plate. I understand the wear and tear aspect, but I don't understand why all four umpires on a crew have to rotate through the plate - take the two best and alternate them - keep the others on the bases.

This Marlins team deserves an early exit from the playoffs (if they get there) if they can’t fucking challenge the Braves. Sickening.

Well the Marlins are right in the thick of the race in the NL. There are 6 teams that are right around .500 battling it out for the last 4 spots (I don't think the Mets are going to make it).

Regarding the playoffs, since there a lot of new things this year.
Everything to know about expanded playoffs

    https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-announc...yoffs-for-2020

One good thing about this year is there are no single wild card games, now it's the best of 3, which I always thought it should be. Ironically, now with 8 teams making it in each league, it would've made more sense to have single games.

Also, all ties in standings at the conclusion of the season will be settled mathematically. No additional games. With everyone in a bubble and no travel, this makes sense.
No off days within a series (until the WS).

Token appearance in this thread - I don't think I've watched more than an inning or two of the Red Sox this season. Was pretty obvious from the beginning that they were just looking to reset the tax this year to free up money in the future. Which they did, and I guess it's a pretty big deal. They didn't even make an attempt to put a winning team out there.

My guess - Cora coming back in 2021 and they'll start ramping the spending back up. But we'll see. Might be a couple of years down to rebuild the farm system after Dumblousy gutted it.

Yeah, if they were going to eat a season, might as well be this one.

Still think the neutral site thing is bullshit. The Dodgers should be allowed a home-field advantage. They’ve earned it.
