I do think Ted Templeman was a big missing factor in both 5150 and OU812. Sam can write...good enough...lyrics when heís trying. Ted needed to be around to push them and to polish the direction of the mix.

Love both. Gotta go with BG. Production makes a huge difference since BG sounds big like VH. SN sounds like the 80's with its shitty production. Plus on a side note I just really love Mike's walking bass on the outro of BG. Its perfect with the harmonies.

Oh yeah BG is the official theme song for Schmidts Gay Beer

Yep, production on EEAS was better than 5150. Then both OU812 and Skyscraper also suffered from the absence of Ted.

I did out of curiosity, listen to Summer Nights, both the studio and live version from LWAN. The live version is a superior cut, but the song itself, to my ears is pretty weak. Even with Eddieís playing.

It conjures an image of a group of jock d-bags in their pastel colored polo shirts with the collarís popped, khaki shorts and boat shoes gathering around a keg. No thanks.

The chorus has a good hook and the harmonizing is great, that is what makes the song.

    Cool bridge too.

But it’s a hook, harmonizing, and bridge that would be just as at home and expected on a Toto album.

Beautiful Girls. I like Summer Nights but the Sam The Lyricist failed me here: "Wanna play some love with them human toys" ??? How did the same man write "5150"?

Summer Nights is one of the greatest pop rock tracks of the 80s. Beautiful Girls is cool, reminds me too much of Aerosmith though. As much as I prefer Sammy I would be very interested to hear Eat Thy Neighbor (DLR Summer Nights) if Eddie ever decides to share his hoarded music.

I'm a big fan 5150, but I've always found Summer Nights to be a little overrated. The version on Live Without A Net is far superior to the studio version.

Both songs are ironically in the same "swung 1/16 meter" time and the same tempo range.

Not many VH songs are swung 16ths.

Eddie's actually pretty incredible and groundbreaking in both these tracks.

    There are actually only 4...

    B Girls
    Whiskey
    Summer Nights
    Man on a Mission

Lot's of swung 1/8 note meters at various tempos, but only 4 swung 16ths tracks over 12 records

    Beautiful Girls

    Both are great, though.

Others on my summer list...Dancing in The Streets, Little Guitars, Ice Cream Man, Girl Gone Bad, Drop Dead Legs, I'll Wait, Take Me back, Black and Blue, Humans Being...

I'll take Summer Nights. One of the first tunes I heard from the Sam era and it blew me away, still love it today.

I love BG, daves lyrics are great, it's a great song.

That’s an overstatement. Def Leppard, Warrent, Poison, Ratt & a host of other bands have just put you on a watch list.
