By the time they took the stage, people were headed for the doors. Of course I was there for them but for some reason when I saw them by themselves at Arco, it was great.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that they got showed up. Cool vid for historical purposes though. I never wanna hear Eagles Fly again. How do you go from debuting Harvester Of Sorrow to that Ugh? Ugh.
That's how I felt. They were not the best band on the bill that day. Having a young just hitting their stride Metallica and then the Scorpions go on before them was a tough act to follow. Not that VH was bad, not saying that, but they should have played around with their setlist some too to more fit the crowd.

That’s how I felt during the Sammy years, except for the 5150 Tour. The set list was dull, and at times, the concert was boring outside of a few tunes, and Eddie’s solo spot.

I had an absolute blast at MOR. I was there for VH. Seeing Metallica was a blast and I appreciated the live mastery of the Scorpions, but VH was on fire and they were my favorite performance of the day.

Things kind of came full circle for Van Halen from 1978 to 1988.

'86 was much more enjoyable. Gates opened at noon. We were their the same amount of time as MOR. We were in the sun all day, and it was warm, but it was September sun vs June sun.
Still a top five concert, for me.

The younger bands on the bill playing before Van Hagar were like Van Halen opening for tired bloated Sabbath in 78.

Look, I was not there, I was not even born yet actually, but this is not true. Van Halen was not tired and bloated in 1988. You could say that from 1995 Balance Tour onwards, but not 1988. If you follow the band and/or watched a small portion of the content from this time on youtube you will see that

As for the other negative comments...

It all comes down to a matter of taste and the fact that Van Halen had a broader audience/target public vs. standart rock bands. Van Halen is Van Halen, they are not going to change their set list and remove top hits just because a young metal band player heavy before them. If you are there and doesn’t like ballads, it doesn’t matter who played before you will still not like it

'95 and onwards? Ed had hip issues on the Balance Tour but played phenomenally, was performing like a motherfucker on the next one for VH3 and playing just as great. And Sammy, Al, and Mike always deliver.

You could say 2004 maybe, but only audio-wise, not visually.
