Default video of Van Halen's complete set from their 'Monsters Of Rock' concert

Enjoy the newly-surfaced video of Van Halen's complete set from their 'Monsters Of Rock' concert in Buffalo NY... filmed on this day in 1988! A good quality, audience-filmed bootleg. Plus an article on what it took to mount such a massive & expensive stadium tour...

Awesome. Had a blast at this show in Seattle!

I think there's another boot of the 1988 tour floating around, I might have it in a file in some folder. I don't remember what show but I think it was different than this because I'm remembering it being shot from the opposite angle to the stage.

Man, the arena shows later in '88 were SOOOO much better.

The set list was typical-ish. Having lived through it, I recalled my show and how I felt that day. All day baking in the sun and witnessing Metallica and Scorps completely destroy...WCTBL, WIL, Eagles Fly just seemed a bit out of place. Watching that video brought that back. By the time they took the stage, people were headed for the doors. Of course I was there for them but for some reason when I saw them by themselves at Arco, it was great.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that they got showed up. Cool vid for historical purposes though. I never wanna hear Eagles Fly again. How do you go from debuting Harvester Of Sorrow to that Ugh? Ugh.

Thanks for posting this! Threw it on while I worked on my 5150 replica last night.

I had never heard the VH rendition of Superstition before - loved it.

As Chris was alluding to, the lineup for this seems weird. Going from Metallica to Eagles Fly? What a jarring turn.

WOW, think you for posting this. My first VH show and I had no idea this existed. We were on the rail in front of Michael Anthony for most of the show. Long, hot day. I remember having to take a Spanish final the next day.
As big a fan as I am of VH, Metallica really stole the show. Unreal and a sign of things to come.

I didn't attend that tour, but that's what I thought looking at the setlist. Say what you will about LWAN, but the setlist from that tour was very consistent. It flowed quite well, and they were able to compensate the absence of many CVH classics with some very cool jamming on OWTR. Here it doesn't seem the setlist is well suited for a festival format.

Brook would understand. That day Metallica was like The Bronx. VH was Manhattan.

I saw them in Dallas on this tour, and Sammy lost his voice during the show and they only played a little over an hour. Not my favorite set list either, as others have mentioned. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make the free show in '91 they did to make up for Sammy's performance. It was announced the morning of the show and I was already at work and couldn’t swing it.
