Texas plans to join either the ACC or PAC-10, or go independent if the move to the SEC doesn't work out (rumored).

They seem to really want out of the Big 12.

This is the first move to getting D1 FBS football away from the NCAA, and if successful there are going to be four mega conferences.

Was talking to a buddy of mine that is involved with Clemson Football, and he says (rumor again) that the SEC is looking to become a 30 team super conference and be the first one to tell the NCAA to go F itself.

Might seem crazy, but if they add Texas and OU, they will be at 16 already.

I wonder how much of this has to do with the NIL policies coming out for NCAA athletes. Sure, those athletes can make decent money in football hungry Texas and Oklahoma, but let's face it, being a big fish in the the Big 12 doesn't compare to the attention they could get in the SEC. That being the case, I feel like good high school football players are going to be paying attention to where they can make the most money during their years on campus, and that would most likely be in the SEC. If you're Texas or Oklahoma, you run the risk of cutting off some of that talent pipeline you've relied on for decades.

It just seems strange that all of the sudden they are trying to get out considering there are still a few years left on the TV deal.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

The cynic in me sees either Texas or OU getting preferential treatment in the rankings to build them up for joining the SEC, just saying.

I know, way too cynical for how young and devastatingly handsome I look.

So, it seems that the end goal is to have a super 30-40 team conference, outside of the NCAA, that operates pretty much as the college football version of the NFL.

Not too sure how I feel about that.

NFL Division 2. If I didn't hate the NFL I'd like the idea. Add a month of real playoffs and play the championship game a week before the Super Bowl. Just buy out all the big university teams . They got the money. Suppose the universities decided they should add eligibility to make more dough with no NCAA around or just go pro? The Cartel in NYC ain't gonna like that. Be crazy if the University Football League is the one to beat the NFL?
