Pretty much. The same people will complain why we don't have money for "insert item here". Maybe cause we're spending so much dealing with the mess you idiots make.

Default The Burning of Canada's Churches - Canada's Summer of Desecration

    The Burning of Canada’s Churches
At least 56 churches have gone up in flames this summer, and the prime minister’s response is tepid.

It has been a difficult summer for Canada’s Christians. Over five days in late June, four Catholic churches and an Anglican church were burned to the ground, the first churches to be set ablaze or vandalized to begin a summer of such desecration. Suspicious fires then broke out across the country. In all, at least 56 churches have been set aflame or vandalized, according to the True North Centre, which is mapping attacks on churches.

This is unquestionably a crisis, but you wouldn’t think it from observing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s response. Although the first suspected arson happened June 21, he didn’t speak out on the issue until July 1. Worse, after dozens of the incidents across seven different provinces and territories, there has been only one arrest. “Am I wrong,” asked Aaron Wudrick of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, “or have more people been arrested in Canada this year for going inside a church to worship than for burning one down?"

    Wall Street Journal:
    https://www.wsj.com/articles/vandali...ls-11627584689
    ----

On a related note, since last years "summer of violence" every parish that I frequent in the greater Denver metro area has been hit by vandals and/or arsonists.
A few weeks ago my little neighborhood parish four blocks from my home was vandalized and defaced. Spraypainted in large letters across the front were "F the Church", "Black Lives Matter", the anarchy symbol, as well as the defacing and vandalism of the statue of a saint out front of our parish.
Since this Canadian graves crisis came to light a favorite downtown parish was defaced with the four letters representing that Canadian crisis spray painted across the front of the church, as well as an attempted arson.
Our Cathedral downtown was vandalized (has been hit several times the past year, actually), hit by an arsonist, exterior spraypainted with "BLM" and "No Justice No Peace" and the other trending slogans and profanities, statues painted and smashed, etc. Lots done at that Cathedral downtown by mobs in plain view with cameras rolling. No arrests. Never any arrests in these incidents.

Anyhow. Appears Canada is experiencing a sort of 'summer of violence' of their own. Lots still happening here as well, fueled in part lately by what is happening in Canada.

If the responsible are BLM, they are extremely stealth like to avoid arrests.

The cynic in me believes that if 56 different Native People's shrines had been burned/vandalized, it would be getting more coverage.

But, as I said, I'm cynical.

Here it in the states in many cases it does involve "BLM". Canada's a little different.

"BLM" isn't nearly as big a thing in Canada, obviously, and so while it is much of the same type of people perpetrating these crimes in Canada (parallel ideologies/beliefs), Canada's have far less of a propensity for spray painting BLM all over everything than do the ones in the states.

The only mention of BLM that I made was the instances of it being spray painted on parishes which I frequent.

    Canada isn't the United States.

Yup. The church burning isn't a blm thing at all. It's in reaction to the unmarked graves being discovered that the Roman Catholic Church has some ownership in, relating back to the residential schools. Not sure how vandalizing churches helps a lick but that's just me.

Trudeau explains away arson attacks on churches

Many Catholic churches have been set on fire, some simply damaged, others burned right to the ground. Even more Christian churches — mostly Catholic but not exclusively — have been vandalized over the past several weeks.

Our prime minister says this is “understandable.”

Yes, it’s true that Justin Trudeau has also said that the burning and destruction of churches is “unacceptable and wrong,” but by saying it is also “understandable,” the PM undermines his mild condemnation of what is going on.

Trudeau only spoke of what has been happening on July 2, almost three weeks after this spate of attacks on churches started. The first arson that I heard of — that was related to the discovery of unmarked graves at residential school sites — was St. John’s Tuscaroras, an Anglican chapel set ablaze on June 12.

Since then, several Catholic churches, a number of Anglican parishes, and Evangelical churches serving African and Vietnamese immigrant communities have been targeted. If there were attacks like this taking place at Mosques or other places of worship, then we know that Trudeau would have tweeted right away, issued statements, and rightly denounced the attacks as hate crimes.

Instead, even when asked, Trudeau can’t use that phrase and his condemnations come with what amounts to a “yeah, but” at the end of it.

“It is unacceptable and wrong that acts of vandalism and arson are being seen across the country, including against Catholic churches,” Trudeau said on Friday.

It’s a rather weak denunciation, but then he made it worse by saying that what has happened is understandable.

“I understand the anger that’s out there against the federal government, against institutions like the Catholic Church. It is real, and it’s fully understandable, given the shameful history that we are all becoming more and more aware of and engaging ourselves to do better as Canadians,” Trudeau said.

What is understandable is that people are hurting as they learn about the unmarked graves of mostly children on the grounds of former residential schools. What is understandable is that people will also be angry, but speaking as he did, using the words that he did, Trudeau is effectively saying it’s OK that churches are burning or being splattered in paint because of that anger.

On Monday, Trudeau said that vandalism and arson aren’t the way to go, that it doesn’t help with reconciliation. He’s right, but he still can’t use the kind of language he would use for any other faith group.

“That is simply not right, it is a shame,” Trudeau said of burning churches when asked if these acts were hate crimes.

By his own definition, these arsons and acts of vandalism would be hate crimes, but he can’t say that. So instead, he calls it “a shame.” He may as well have added a “tut-tut” at the end and a finger wag.

While Trudeau has been slow to offer any real condemnation, First Nations leaders have spoken up. Chief Clarence Louie, of the Osoyoos Indian Band, stated clearly in interviews that he doesn’t follow the church, but didn’t want people mincing words by calling four churches being burned down simply suspicious.

“I wouldn’t call it suspicious, I’d call it what it is, it’s a criminal act, it’s vandalism. It’s arson,” Louie told Global News.

“To burn things down is not our way,” Perry Bellegarde, national chief of the Assembly of First Nations, said Wednesday.

Both men have used stronger words than our equivocating prime minister. Trudeau could learn from them.

    Ah, forgot about that.

But weren't those joint projects? Shouldn't the Canadian government be sharing the blame in that? I am usually first in line to blame the Catholics, but I don't think in this case it's all on them (if I recall correctly).
