    Default Queen

Not sure if everyone knows, but Queen (Brian May and Roger Taylor) will be teaming up with Free/Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers for a World Tour this year.

As it will be billed as "Queen with Paul Rodgers".

Unfortunately, original Queen bassist John Deacon will not join them for this tour.

Apparently, Deacon hasn't been involved with anything Queen related since the 1995 release of 'Made in Heaven'.

Not sure who will be playing bass.

The tour will see them play Queen and Paul Rodgers songs (I would assume mostly Queen stuff since the majority of people going to these shows would want to hear them).

Queen songs likely to be played will be: We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions, Fat Bottomed Girls, Tie Your Mother Down.

There is word that they will play a version of Bohemium Rhapsody where a video will be featured of Freddie Mercury singing the slow intro and then Paul and the band will go into the fast part ("...So you think you can love me and leave me to die...oh baby.)

    I'm a big Queen fan.

I like the fact that Brian and Roger are heading out there again. I'm disapointed Deacon is not there.

I'm not sure how Paul Rodgers will sound singing the Queen stuff. I mean, there are songs that I think they won't touch that doesn't fit Rodgers' style (ie: Somebody to Love, etc.)

Anyhow, thought I'd start a thread on this.

Yes, this is the real deal.

Check out www.queenonline.com and Paul Rodgers' website for all the news.

As for dates, they'll be touring the UK first so those dates have been cemented.

Then its off to do some shows in the rest of Europe, and then come back for a North American tour.

Yes, this would be a great tour to see.

    I'm sure Freddie approves.

I think Paul Rogers is an excellent choice. Classy dude with pipes to match. I would like to hear him sing "Seagull" with tribute to Freddy.

Yeah, that would be very cool.

I mean, aside from 'All Right Now', 'Rock and Roll Fantasy', and 'Rock Steady' what other songs would Paul Rodgers sing from HIS repertoire?

Fans no doubt will go wild over hearing Queen classics again.

    I'd like Paul to do:

    Keep Yourself Alive
    One Vision

And even play a song Queen and Freddie never played live like "I Want it All".

True, yet ultimately I just don't see the point of this collaboration...if it was to introduce some new music, great...yet why use the Queen name when it's not the whole band?

Sort of like Daltrey and Townsend recording together and calling it the Who...wait a minute, they are.

(I'm not kidding...the project/album has the working title of "Who2".)

There's enough Bad Company songs to do an entire set, without even tapping into The Firm, Free, Paul's solo stuff.....but if this is Queen with PR, I would think the PR stuff would be at a minimum.

Check out Bad Company's Anthology if you think the catalog is lacking. There's an entire disc of songs I had never heard, and it's good stuff.

I wonder what Mick Ralphs, Simon Kirke and Boz Burrell think about Paul playing "his" hits with another band?

Absolutely! The DVD "Merchants Of Cool" (Bad Co. live in 2002) is simply outstanding, and I do not doubt the lung-power of Paul Rogers, I do question...I dunno, the nature of the "ethics" or the thinking behind this thing.

I realise it is a European tour, and it sounds like much fun, I find fault in billing it as "Queen", when that band is represented by only half it's members.

I think I'd like to see them. I never saw Queen or Paul Rodgers live. It's certainly and interesting mix with the great music of Queen and the voice of Paul. Will it translate to something good? Time will tell.

Sorry, I can't imagine Paul Rogers doing justice to the Queen catalogue. He's a great Rock singer, but a poor fit for Queen.

Have you seen them live? They put on a great show. Starkey is a great drummer. But I own most of the "new" Lynyrd Skynyrd's output, so hey...
