Elton is the better piano player, Billy is the better songwriter (and his concerts are more fun!)

    Billy Joel

Side note - last time I threw down the fisticuffs, of all places, at a Billy Joel concert, right around the turn of the century
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

A man's rights rests in three boxes: the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box

Hurricane Halen - Let's all gingery touch our sword tips!!!

I prefer Elton but I look like Billy Joel so going to call it a draw.

Elton is the better piano player but he never wrote words. Billy likely did both. Billy bred Christie Brinkley. God knows what Elton put his penis into.

Both very talented and really can't decide. They are both great

    Billy Joel.

    For m e it's easy--I'm a much bigger fan of Billy's.

I would give the slight edge to Elton for piano playing. But Billy isn't bad either. I actually like his style better on the keys.

Elton. Just like his songs better.

Plus, Billy Joel is a colossal prick in real life (watch the documentary "Hired Gun" to find out more)

I liked "Hired Gun." It would have been nice to get Billy's take though. But yeah, I've heard he can be a real prick. Doesn't stop me from loving his music though.

    Elton.

Voice, style, historical impact, legendary-ness, stage show, persona, etc

I couldn't put Billy over on any of those.

Tough call but for me it's Billy Joel. Billy is to NY what Springsteen is to Jersey.

As far as cultural impact, it's definitely Elton.

I can't see how one can argue differently.

Buddy of mine works for Billy Joel...the reputation is well deserved according to him.
