Its not just the rancid apple. Its all the big cities and some tiny towns. Westiminster MD used to be a sleepy country town 27 miles northwest of Baltimore. Now drug dealers and junkies on every corner. I went to a dinner there 2 weeks ago and 3 people asked me for money from the parking lot to the entrance. But they all had cell phones.

EV, I've encountered panhandlers with phones. Instead of giving them money, it made me wanna beat the shit out of them. But I just ignored them and went on my way. Fuck them, let them call their drug dealers for a handout.

My standard response is always, "Oh, no thanks!" as if they were offering ME something. Back when I was more sassy, if someone asked for money I'd offer to buy their phone or dog - which they always have with them. "I'll give you $10 for your phone." This makes them want to have a conversation, though, and I can't be bothered with that anymore.

On that note, I feel like our homeless problem on Oahu is getting better? Don't know how or why - or if it's even true, but I feel like don't see nearly as many homeless as I used to.

I have sympathy for truly homeless and down-and-out people but the assholes I've encountered were far from that. They weren't hurting. They were only hurting for another fix!

I've softened my stance on begging. Our homeless problem is so bad that I blame the city. I blame citizens. I blame the government. Number one reason why. The complete lack of mental health services. No more facilities to treat. The city has given up on what to do because the community doesn't want anything near their comfort zones. It's left to police officers, and they won't enforce laws.

I give if I have to give. It's not my place to make demands on what they choose to do with it. I desire karma.

I bought a homeless woman a bottle of wine, once. I saw a body laying on the ground in front of a liquor store. I bury my head in the sand. Like 6 in the morning. I cross the street to avoid (wrong, I know) and head to my 7/11.

Next thing i know, this poor creature was right on my ass. This was the most decrepit soul I'd ever seen. Concrete face scabs from falling down. Missing teeth. Barely any hair on her head that actually looked like it had been scalped. All she wanted was some white wine. I buy my shit. Get her wine. She was all smiles. If that's what it took to get thru the day. Where I live, it's unavoidable.

I'd be willing to give alkies a few bucks for their booze but when it comes to meth or heroin, they are on their own. I know, it's all bad but I don't mind kindred spirits. It's like that scene in Crocodile Dundee when Mick comes across a bum who asks for a drink from his bottle and Mick just gives it to him. The wino happily thanks him: "You just saved my life!"

Cuomo Eyes Longtime Ally to Help Launch Mayoral Bid

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo will pick a longtime ally to help him launch a mayoral bid next month against current New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Politico reported Thursday.

Charlie King, a consultant whose relationship with Cuomo dates back decades, has already begun vetting others to work on the former governor's mayoral campaign, according to the report.

"As far as I know, there is no Cuomo campaign for mayor but should that change, I'm sure everyone will know who is on board," King told Politico. "Judging by the unsolicited proposals and resumes that have flooded in, should the former governor decide to run, I'm sure he'll have his pick."

Cuomo is eyeing an early February launch, according to the report, with petitioning for ballot access running from Feb. 25 to April 3. The Democrat primary is June 24.

Cuomo would add to the ever-growing list of Democrat candidates to challenge Adams' bid for a second term after the five-count indictment that Adams was hit with in September. Adams is accused of defrauding taxpayers out of $10 million in matching campaign funds and taking $123,000 in bribes in the form of travel perks from Turkish officials and nationals. His trial is scheduled for April.

Not counting Cuomo, at least eight challengers have announced plans to run against Adams. According to the report, Cuomo was not intending to challenge Adams until Hizzoner's legal woes began to mount.

However, a Cuomo spokesperson threw cold water on the speculation, telling Politico that "nothing has changed and neither apparently has the rumor mill in all its glory. This all remains premature."

Cuomo resigned as governor in August 2021 over a barrage of sexual harassment allegations, charges he has denied. A subsequent report found he sexually harassed 11 women.
