Both are killer tunes and I love'em.

But Atomic Punk is a favourite from the debut album. It has some nice lyrics. No backing vocals, which is weird in terms of Van Halen. Besides I enjoy a lot what de brothers do - that intro is perfect! Well, the song IS perfect!!

Both are great, PURE Heavy Metal Van Halen!

These tunes are both amazing & hard as fuck.

But i give the edge to AP, because it just sounds so futuristic & moody.

Both have that frantic pulse, though.
LUTS on VH II, is in a similar sonic space of pure, metallic fury.

    Cool

I like Atomic Punk a lot more. It has a cool sci-fi story to it. Which is rare for Van Halen.

Atomic Punk by far. Better lyrics, better solo, better riff, better use of FX.

Mike’s BGVs are the only thing On Fire has on Atomic Punk.

I do love those CREEPY, dead harmonics in "On Fire."
What a sound that was, back in the day.

I also love that little low/high chordal riff he launches into, i think before the solo.

I love them both, but I have to go with On Fire, which may contain Dave's all-time best vocal performance.

Love em both too, but man, On Fire by a mile. Better riff, better drumming, better vocals. Maybe the best screams ever.

    Those hits are awesome!

I feel like Al does not get enough credit in Ted's book, though.

He talks about working with Aerosmith, his huge fight with Joey Kramer,
then he goes on to say that Joey Kramer is one of the greatest rock & roll
drummers of all time, and could have been a session guy.

Now i love Joey Kramer, but Ted always rates these guys (Ed, Joey) on
a Jazz scale, because Ted loves Jazz players.

But i think Al had way more jazz in him, similar to Ginger Baker.
I hear a jazzy touch there, but i feel like Ted overlooks what Alex meant
to VH, and puts it all on Ed & Dave.

Really? Bummer. I like Kramer but he is nowhere near Al's class as a player. Aww well.

    On Fire.

    By a long shot.

One of Ed’s best riffs and the best Dave scream on record (right after the solo).

Possibly one of the best rock and roll screams in any song, ever.
