Default New Family Guy Episode: Van Halen

Peter develops a love for Van Halen. That's part of tonight's episode.

Have to interrupt the Jordan show to watch this.

That was the first new episode of Family Guy I've watched in a decade. Good to see they can still drudge up some laughs.

The first 3rd, that was devoted to 1984/Panama was funny although like a lot of Family Guy bits, overstays the welcome. The rest of the episode when Peter was in a coma was a lot more uneven. Still, it was awesome to go into tonight's episode blind and watch it unfold . Reminded me a bit of the episode where Stewie is freaked out by Queen's "News Of The World" album cover.

Yeah, agree it stayed it's welcome longer than I expected it to -- sometimes MacFarlane does that intentionally to prove a point or go an extra half step but it didn't land. not too upset tho as it was VH.

Gotta say, I knew what joke was coming when Ernie the Chicken was putting in that CD and man, was I expecting Love Walks In

I was expecting either a Hagar era tune or a Journey ballad.

I thought maybe Surfin Bird. Haha.

Holy Cow. What a nice funny surprise. Love the Thelma & Louis cliff jump.

Although realistically it's unlikely Peter wouldn't of already known about 1984 & heard Panama before. He was a big KISS fan afterall & had the big KISS Stock episode in Quahog town with the real KISS.

Would've been cool to see Stewie's reaction. Maybe he gets one of those big VH Is Watching You 1984 posters & gets spooked by the baby or something. There's many idea's that could be explored.

Also- Pretty much dispells the false notion that nobody other than a few online diehards are aware of VH in these modern times.

There are 80s pop culture references on that show that are often pretty obscure. Could have just been the showrunner's favorite band. That said, they did spend a lot of time on it.

Ironically (or not) that episode was the first one that the current showrunner produced.
