Would you have liked to see Eddie do more stuff like From Afar?

Forget Gary's lyrics/vocals for a minute. What do you think of Eddie's style on the track? Very ominous riff, with a very unusual solo. Would you have liked to have seen him pursue this style further?

From Afar is an interesting piece of music, but I don't care for the solo (although I could say that of most of the solos on III).

Would I want to hear more music like it? Yes, provided that is was kept in balance with a mix of more classic Halen style music on the album.

I like From Afar. But I don't need more of it.

That whole album seemed "experimental." I wish they had put out another album soon after that which was back to the normal VH style. Something familiar to cleanse the bad taste that III gave us.

Nope. There's no melody in this riff, harmonically it doesn't go anywhere. It's kind of like a failed attempt at progressive rock. Pass.

I love Ed experimenting. Wish he'd do some now. But this just didn't work. Sometimes they work sometimes they don't. No reason to stop trying. The next one could be amazing.

While not a huge fan of 3....I did like some of it when it came out. I have no problems with Ed taking risks. That’s why I love Ed. He doesn’t stay in a box like ac/dc and tries to express his musical chops in different ways. I wouldn’t mind more experimenting if it got us more music.
