Soloing
Hi all, I’m a novice player, been playing off and on for years, mostly self taught. I’m an okay rhythm player, but not to good on picking up solos
Any recommendations on the best way to improve on doing some solo covers in songs
Any app recommendations or is the best way to just grab sine tabs and really work at it?

A couple of things that really helped me, not that i'm a great soloist at all.
Learn scales on one string as well as in boxes. Learn it on one string, then on the string next to it and then combine the two. It really helps with learning the fret board.
While you do need to know scales, phrases are way more important. Blues phrases are where it's at.If you always search for bullshit on the Internet, all you ever read is bullshit

Just start with a basic minor pentatonic & blues scale.
Save the modes & metronomes for much later.
You can get so much mileage from those five notes in E or A, or anywhere.
Jimmy Page, Angus Young, Aerosmith, SRV, Hendrix, Clapton, even a nice portion of EVH...
I'd hit youtube and focus on guys teaching phrasing of those licks, along with chords
that connect to them.

This is great lesson on phrasing & basic licks.
Take something as simple as the lick at 9:30, and build up speed,
and it sounds lethal.
The trick is to not just go up & down scales, but dig out musical chunks
of the scales, licks, and practice those.

Mean Streets, Dave not David thanked for this post.
Probably just means that Roth era songs get more "listeners" than Sammy stuff... Or, Roth era albums are selling more OR maybe they need a bump in sales. Could be a million things.
I was told
