    Default Fair Warning and Balance

This is NOT a Fair Warning vs Balance thread. I was just thinking about some of the similarities between these 2 albums:

The 4th albums from the Dave and Sam eras
Each of them sold less than the 3 previous albums from each era
Arguably the best produced albums from each era
Tension was running high between Eddie and the lead singer from each era
Probably the "darkest" albums musically from each era
The color schemes of the album covers are very similar

The original lineup was able to survive the turmoil of 1981 before splitting up 4 years later in 1985.

The 2nd incarnation was unable to survive the turmoil of 1995 and split up in 1996.

    Thoughts?
"It's so lonely at the top because it's so crowded at the bottom" - Diamond David Lee Roth

"The truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth" - Todd Wagner

LOL! Who'da thunk there were so many closeted HSAS fans among so-called Dave era guys?

Who'da thunk there were so many Journey fans among so-called Dave era guys?

But as tired as you are about reading about HSAS...you'd be more tired listening to HSAS.

The lyrical themes of the albums are probably the "darkest" of their respective eras, but I still feel like the more raw crunchy tones of WACF and OU812 are just as "dark" tonally, if not more, than FW and Balance.

Both records start off with arguably their best track (MS and 7th Seal).

Both records' fourth tracks have some of Edward's best rhythm and solo work in his entire catalogue (HAIL, Amsterdam).

Both records have two of the weaker instrumentals in the catalogue (SAITP, Strung Out).

Man. What I would give for a long lost bonus track or jam from the Fair Warning sessions...would be a lot.

Many say that VH may have been peaking with FW. I don't think anyone says that about Balance.

The production of WACF is raw, whereas the production on FW is polished.
