I have not heard of a lot of athletes helping to fight Coronavirus yet. They are safely hiding in their mansions I am sure. It's time for them to step up!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of them have over 100 million dollars!!! Some donations for masks & respirators that are badly needed would be nice!

But there have been a few so far. One of my favorite boxers Manny Pacquiao has been helping his people a lot in his home country of the Philippines. But that is nothing new, he is always helping them.

Manny Pacquiao Says He’s ‘Not Afraid to Die' to Help Philippines Fight Pandemic








Philippine senator Manny Pacquiao has continued to make numerous public appearances throughout the COVID-19 outbreak, as he believes that it is important for world leaders to be visible during the crisis.

"If you are a leader, you have to be a frontliner," he told the Manila Bulletin, adding that he is personally "not afraid to die" from coronavirus if it means helping his country fight the pandemic. He specifically expressed concerns of a rise in looting if people experiencing poverty and homelessness aren't taken care of.

"You have to lead and let people see that you are with them," he continued. "I grew up poor. I know what they feel."

ABS-CBN reported last week that Pacquiao had donated 600,000 face masks to people on the front lines of the pandemic, including healthcare workers, medical researchers, Department of Health staff, and national police. He also partnered with Jack Ma, founder of Chinese online retailer Alibaba, to donate 50,000 coronavirus testing kits. At the time of writing, there have been 462 reported cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines, and 33 deaths.

The senator began a six-year term in 2016 after being elected to the Philippines' House of Representatives in 2010. He juggles his busy senate schedule with a highly successful career in boxing: he recently won the WBA's "super" welterweight champion when he defeated the previously unbeaten Keith Thurman in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao was then expected to go up against Mikey Garcia, Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter or Errol Spence Jr in July., but the ongoing coronavirus situation has halted his return to the ring.

Drew Brees pledges $5 million to Louisiana in 2020, plans to deliver 10,000 meals per day!





While the coronavirus outbreak has largely ground America to a halt, hitting Louisiana especially hard, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and his family are investing their personal wealth in an effort to get the state through a difficult stretch.

In an announcement on his social media platforms Thursday, Brees indicated he and his wife, Brittany Brees, are committing $5 million to Louisiana in 2020 via food donations through their various business interests.



Brittany and I are committing $5,000,000 to the State of Louisiana in 2020. The priority now is helping our communities get through this tough time. After considerable research and conversations with local organizations, we will be mobilizing our partnerships with Second Harvest Food Bank, Ochsner Health Systems, Walk-Ons, Jimmy Johns, Smalls Sliders and Waitr to prepare and deliver over 10,000 meals per day throughout Louisiana for as long as it takes to children on meal programs, seniors, and families in need. Let’s all do our part, maintain hope, and get through this together.

Saints and Drew Brees reach an agreement on $50 million contract: report

The Brees family pledge quickly made the rounds online, eliciting digital kudos and thank yous from within the state and across the country.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards took to Twitter to thank Brees for his support in this time of crisis, tweeting, "Thank you, @drewbrees. On behalf of the Great State of Louisiana, we are all grateful for your family’s support and generosity through this trying time. We are one Louisiana and we will get through this, together."

In a March 21 tweet, Brees announced he was "assessing the need" in New Orleans before deciding how to proceed with his relief efforts. As of Thursday afternoon, 2,305 people in Louisiana had tested positive for coronavirus and 83 people died.

As of March 23, an analysis by the New Orleans Advocate | Times-Picayune showed Orleans Parish had the sixth-highest rate of known coronavirus cases of any county in the United States.

"Everyone is affected in one way or another," Brees tweeted. "Let’s all band together to help and support each other. Brittany (and) I will be making an announcement soon as to the ongoing relief efforts."

Just last month, Brees announced his intent to put off retirement and return for his 20th NFL season, the past 14 of which have been spent in New Orleans. Last week, he signed a two-year, $50 million contract extension that would bring his career earnings near $300 million, the most in NFL history.

The Saints quarterback is no stranger to philanthropy.

He founded the Brees Dream Foundation in 2003 with the stated mission of "improving the quality of life for cancer patients, and provide care, education and opportunities for children and families in need."

According to the foundation's website, it has contributed more than $33 million to charitable causes around the world.

Brees originally signed with the Saints in March 2006, signing a six-year pact in a city and region that had been ravaged by Hurricane Katrina just six months earlier.

During a speaking engagement before the start of the 2018 season, Brees recalled his free agency visit with Saints coach Sean Payton, who had himself just recently arrived in the city.

Payton drove Brees to the North Shore of Lake Ponchartrain, where the storm did not hit as hard. But they got lost in New Orleans' Lakeview neighborhood on the way back, and at one point their path was blocked by a tugboat in the street.

The coach remarked to Brees the scene might as well have marked the end of Brees' time in New Orleans before it started. Instead, Brees signed with the Saints and became a symbol of the city's revival. In a 2008 interview with ESPN, Brees said he and Brittany thought of being a part of rebuilding the city as "a calling."

He led the Saints to their first Super Bowl title in 2009, earning Most Valuable Player honors in the game, and was named Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year in 2010. Wearing a Saints uniform, he has broken virtually all of the NFL's major career passing records.

But he has also taken a less symbolic, more hands-on approach. Through his foundation, he partnered with Operation Kids in 2007, raising $2 million — of which the Brees family contributed $250,000 — to help rebuild schools, parks, playgrounds and athletic facilities in the New Orleans area.

Look up Ronaldo. (Soccer superstar, global icon.) He donated his whole chain of hotels to the NHS AND is paying for the services rendered. Amazing generosity.

Several English Premier League teams are donating their facilities or team owned hotels to do the same. And several teams' players have donated their salaries back to the "cause" as they are not currently playing.

Of course, they then spend their days posting dumb Instagram video of them juggling toilet paper rolls and playing with their expensive toys in their giant mansions...

Fundraising campaign announced on Thursday
Rafael Nadal and six-time NBA All-Star Pau Gasol have launched the #NuestraMejorVictoria (Our Best Victory) campaign, which they hope to use to encourage donations from Spanish sport in the fight against COVID-19. The initiative, which forms part of the #CruzRojaResponde (Red Cross Responds) project, aims to raise €11 million and help citizens in need during this health emergency.
The two sportsmen made an appeal on Thursday via social media, sending out a clear message of unity and reciprocal support to all members of the Spanish public. Because Spanish citizens have supported them in their victories and defeats, they wanted to return that affection at this challenging time.
“You have always been on our side during happy times and difficult times. You have always been understanding… We athletes are what we are largely thanks to your support. Now is the time that we cannot let you down,” Nadal said. “It occurred to me to ring my friend Pau [Gasol] and he was also thinking about doing something. We reached the conclusion that now is the time to launch this initiative, which we hope that the whole of Spanish sport will get behind.”


Nadal is at home in Mallorca and complying with the confinement regulations set out by the Spanish government. Since 14 March, Spain has been under a state of national emergency, which includes measures limiting the movement of citizens.

“We are going through a time that would have been unexplainable and unimaginable a few months ago,” Nadal said. “We’re suffering the impact of this pandemic which has changed all of our lives, particularly those people who are suffering firsthand and their relatives.

I have been at home for a few days and thinking about how I can help in this situation, which is completely new to everyone.”


With more than 64,000 cases confirmed and almost 5,000 deaths, Spain is one of the countries most seriously affected by this pandemic. Spanish athletes were quick to respond and several have already shown their support for the project by promising to give donations.
Notable ATP players such as Feliciano López and David Ferrer have been joined by other Spanish athletes, including WTA stars Garbine Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro, race car drivers Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz, football goalkeeper Iker Casillas, track and field athletes Bruno Hortelano and Orlando Ortega, and yachtswoman Theresa Zabell, among others.

Atlanta Braves: All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman Freeman has pledged $50,00 to the Atlanta Food Bank and $50,000 to the Giving Kitchen, a program that provides emergency assistance to food service workers. Freeman has also donated $25,000 to the Salvation Army, bringing his total outlay to $125,000.

Atlanta Hawks: Team owner Tony Ressler told Hawks CEO Steve Koonin two weeks before the league decided to go on a hiatus that "if we shut down, we have to take care of our part-time employees," as reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Sarah K. Spencer.


Boston Celtics: The Celtics will reportedly be paying game-night staff through the remainder of the regular season, per MassLive's John Karalis.

Brooklyn Nets: In response to Nets' guard Spencer Dinwiddie tweeting about taking care of non-salaried arena workers, team owner Joe Tsai responded by saying the franchise is putting a plan in place to help out Barclays Center staff. That plan includes paying non-salaried workers the paychecks they would typically receive through May if the remainder of the Nets games were played, in addition to non-Nets events such as concerts.

Charlotte Hornets: In a press release on Sunday, the Hornets announced that team owners and players were coming together to help pay for the salaries of part-time workers at Spectrum Center who were previously scheduled to work any upcoming Hornets or G League Greensboro Swarm games through April 13.

Chicago Bulls: The Bulls announced Saturday that they would pay game-day employees through all previously scheduled Bulls and Blackhawks games.

Chicago Cubs: Jason Heyward donated $200,000 to coronavirus relief in Chicago, split between two organizations. Heyward is giving $100,000 each to the Greater Chicago Food Depository and MASK, an organization that is collecting supplies and food for families impacted by the virus.

Cleveland Cavaliers: Kevin Love became the first player in the league to donate money to event staff at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse when he announced on social media that he would give $100,000 to those workers. The Cavaliers followed their star forward and announced on Twitter that they would be taking care of all hourly staff.

Dallas Mavericks: When the league announced postponement, team owner Mark Cuban wasted no time in making it clear that he would make sure all the employees who work events and games at the American Airlines Center would be paid during the hiatus. The Mavericks also released a statement Sunday saying that they plan to reimburse employees for breakfast and lunch purchases from Dallas-area restaurants in an effort to not only help those employees but local businesses as well.


Denver Nuggets: In a press release, team owner Josh Kroenke announced that Kroenke Sports & Entertainment will provide financial compensation for all the workers at the Pepsi Center affected by the lost wages due to the NBA's current hiatus.


Detroit Pistons: Blake Griffin will be donating $100,000 to the workers inside Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, per The Detroit News' Rod Beard.
Golden State Warriors: Warriors ownership, players and coaches will contribute $1 million to a disaster relief fund for Chase Center employees, the team announced. "The men and women who work our games at Chase Center are critical in providing an incredible game-night experience for our fans," Warriors guard Steph Curry said. "As players, we wanted to do something along with our ownership and coaches to help ease the pain during this time."


Houston Astros: Astros star George Springer joined the growing list of stars within the sports world to go into their own pockets to help others impacted by the spread of the coronavirus by pledging to donate $100,000 to Minute Maid Park employees.

Indiana Pacers: Pacers owner Herb Simon has given financial aid to the part-time workers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, per Bob Kravitz of The Athletic.

Houston Rockets: Team CEO Tad Brown said that the franchise is getting a plan together to take care of all hourly workers at Toyota Center, per The Houston Chronicle's Johnathan Feigen.



Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers: The Clippers and Lakers, both tenants of the Staples Center, along with the Kings of the NHL, announced Saturday that they have created a fund to compensate over 2,800 part-time and contract workers that typically staff Staples Center for NBA and NHL games. This includes employees such as team statisticians, announcers and dance teams. Also, Lakers star forward Anthony Davis announced a partnership with Lineage Logistics that will help Staples Center workers find work while the NBA is suspended. Davis and Lineage will also match up to $250,000 in donations for Feed the Frontlines LA, an organization that is aiming to raise money to purchase food from local restaurants to deliver it to hospital workers.


Memphis Grizzlies: The Grizzlies will be compensating all game night employees for any games missed through the end of the year, according to Geoff Calkins of The Daily Memphian.


Miami Heat: The Heat will provide funds to their partners in food and beverage services, security and housekeeping in order to help pay their part-time arena staffers, the team announced. Additionally, the Arison family, owners of the Heat, will donate $1 million to a fund dedicated to helping those part-time workers.




Milwaukee Bucks: Reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo took to Twitter to announce that he will be donating $100,000 to workers at Fiserv Forum, saying "it's bigger than basketball."
Minnesota Timberwolves: Karl-Anthony Towns is donating $100,000 to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota to help aid in providing testing for COVID-19.


Major League Baseball: The league donated $1 million to emergency food services, and each team pledged $1 million for ballpark workers affected by the shutdown. It has also announced support for minor-leaguers, who haven't been paid since August.




New Orleans Pelicans: No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Zion Williamson, announced on his Instagram that he's pledging to cover the salaries of all workers at Smoothie King Center for the next 30 days. In the post, Williamson said, "this is a small way for me to express my support and appreciation for these wonderful people who have been so great to me and my teammates." In addition to Zion's contribution, Pelicans owner Gayle Benson will be donating $1 million to create the Gayle Benson Community Assistance Fund, which will not only help the workers at Smoothie King Center, but those impacted by the coronavirus in the greater New Orleans area as well.




New York Knicks: Madison Square Garden reportedly plans to play event staff, including employees who work Knicks and Rangers games, until May.




Oklahoma City Thunder: The Thunder released a statement Friday stating that they will offer financial assistance to both the part-time stadium workers that they employ directly and the ones who technically work for ASM Global.




Orlando Magic: The DeVos Family, owners of the Orlando Magic, have created a $2 million compensation fund for Orlando Magic, Amway Center, Lakeland Magic and Orlando Solar Bears hourly workers for games and time missed during the COVID-19 suspension of seasons. Magic power forward Jonathan Isaac also decided to help provide children in the Orlando area with breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday throughout the length of the crisis, in response to schools being shut down amidst the pandemic.




Philadelphia 76ers: The hourly workers at Wells Fargo Center will be compensated during the NBA's hiatus, per NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark. Also, Joel Embiid says he is donating $500,000 to coronavirus relief and aiding team workers who are taking temporary salary reductions during the shutdown.




Phoenix Suns: The Suns announced in a press release that all Talking Stick Resort Arena workers will receive compensation for the remaining Suns games canceled in March.



Portland Trail Blazers: The Blazers are pledging $1.4 million to the nearly 1,000 part-time employees who work game nights at Moda Center, as reported by The Athletic's Jason Quick.




Sacramento Kings: The Kings are partnering with Legends Hospitality, ABM, Fanatics and SAMMCO to provide compensation to all employees who work game nights at Golden 1 Center through the end of March, per The Sacramento Bee's Jason Anderson.






San Antonio Spurs: The Spurs have created a fund of $500,000 to help pay for non-contract and part-time employees, per The San Antonio Express-News' Jeff McDonald.






Toronto Raptors: The Raptors joined forces with four other Toronto professional sports teams to create a fund for all workers impacted by the sudden stop in sports schedules


Utah Jazz: Rudy Gobert, the first NBA player to test positive for the coronavirus, will donate $500,000 to various causes. Of that money, $200,000 will go to game-day employees for the Jazz, $100,000 each will go to families impacted by the virus in Utah and Oklahoma City, and 100,000 euros will go to his native France.






Washington Wizards: Team owner Ted Leonsis reportedly told Capital One Arena workers that they will be paid through March 31 for any Wizards or Capitals games they were scheduled to work, per The Athletic's Tarik El-Bashir.



Former NBA player Jeremy Lin announced that he was donating $150,000 to UNICEF to help fight the coronavirus. Lin also donated the same amount to the China Foundation.

According to “Good Morning America,” actor and former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced in a Tuesday Instagram post that he had pledged $1 million to the Frontline Responders Fund, a GoFundMe campaign that aims to get face masks, gloves and surgical gowns to first responders.


“I never believed in sitting on the couch and complaining about how bad things are, I always believed we should all do our part to make things better,” wrote Schwarzenegger, who is listed as one of the campaign’s organizers. “This is a simple way to protect our real action heroes on the front lines in our hospitals, and I’m proud to be part of it. I donated $1 million, and I hope that all of you who can will step up to support these heroes.”



According to the GoFundMe page, the contributions go to the Flexport.org Fund, which is managed by CAF America. Flexport then supports the companies involved in the making and delivery of the items.


“We’re at the point of intersection for companies to move critical supplies from the factory and get them to frontline responders,” the campaign’s description says. “Hospitals and medical centers tell us where we need to surge resources. We’re working with every major trucking company, airline, medical supplier and everyone in between.”

There's a lot of good being done in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, which has sparked Henrik Lundqvist to do more.

The New York Rangers goalie pledged $100,000 through his foundation to support Food Bank for New York City, a nonprofit that strives to end hunger in the city's five boroughs.


His announcement came on the heels of the Tampa Bay Lightning's decision to donate 500,000 meals to a food pantry in the Tampa Bay area and a $1.2 million pledge to Western New York charities from Buffalo Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula.
Lundqvist and his wife Therese's donation will feed 68,000 meals to 8,000 kids and their families in New York. He's inviting those who can to support the cause too.
"So many people are doing so many good things for others right now," Lundqvist said in a post on Twitter and Instagram. "Me and my wife Therese feel inspired."

Holtby family donates $25,000 of food, joining teams' charitable efforts!
Lightning, Canadiens, Red Wings, Hurricanes contributing supplies that will be turned into meals!




As Washington Capitals goalie, Braden Holtby knows how to lend a helping hand. And that's exactly what he and wife Brandi are doing during the paused NHL season during the coronavirus pandemic.

The couple has personally donated $25,000 to the Capital Area Food Bank and have started a fundraiser on mightycause.com to help get another $10,000 over the next month.

Capital Area Food Bank works with over 450 other non-profit organizations in the region to provide over 30 million meals each year to those in need.

The couple aren't the only ones from the League getting involved.

The Montreal Canadiens donated their entire March allotment of food, sending more than 13,000 pounds of food that was not being used at Bell Centre to Montreal-area food banks.

General manager Marc Bergevin even assisted in moving the food to the trucks for shipping.



The team partnered with Moisson Montreal, a nonprofit Quebec-based food bank, and are soliciting food and financial donations to help feed people in need during the pandemic.

The Ilitch Companies have partnered with Forgotten Harvest of the metro Detroit area to donate over 6,500 pounds of food from Little Caesars Arena, home of the Detroit Red Wings and 23 pallets of food, 6,000 sanitizing wipes and 6,000 vinyl sanitary gloves from MotorCity Casino Hotel.



The home of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Amalie Arena, is sending 18 pallets of food and beverage to Metropolitan Ministries and Feeding Tampa Bay.



The Carolina Hurricanes food service, VAB Catering, is sending food to Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, a Raleigh-based non-profit organization.



This is the latest in a growing trend that sawthe Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins make large food donations earlier this week.

Stamkos announces Lightning's 500,000 meal donation, employee fund!
Players contributing to local food bank, assist part-time workers at Amalie Arena!



The Tampa Bay Lightning are trying to make these uncertain times a little easier for those in need.

Captain Steven Stamkos announced the Lightning players are donating 500,000 meals to the Feeding Tampa Bay food pantry and funding part-time workers at Amalie Arena.



The players' food donation will help seniors, economically devastated families and children who are missing meals in the Tampa Bay area because of the coronavirus pandemic. The Lightning also encourage fans to donate at the pantry's website if they can.

Stamkos announced the pledges in a video posted to Twitter and the team website Wednesday.

"Definitely an unprecedented time in the world right now," Stamkos said. "There's a lot of uncertainty, it's a very stressful time. Little scary, but we're going to get through this together. We're going to get through this as a community."
