Default Eddie and Gary working again???

I got a message this morning from a friend who keeps up with all the Dave and Dave podcasts, and he said there’s rumours circulating Gary is hanging out with Ed again at 5150. I’ve never heard it before, but it sounds credible if he wanted to stay active throughout his health battles. I’d personally love to see the finished 1999 album see the light of day. But he’d still have to pay Mike royalties, unless he erases all of Mikes bass lines (I wouldn’t put it past him). But has anyone else heard this rumour?

    Maybe they read this?

Former singer Gary Cherone said that unheard material he worked on with Van Halen sounded closer to their classic sound than the songs heard on Van Halen III.

The Extreme frontman joined Eddie Van Halen’s band in 1996 but left in 1999, after working on a follow-up album to III that was never released.

“It was more in the strike zone of Van Halen,” Cherone told Eddie Trunk on Sirius XM’s Trunk Nation recently. “We were comfortable.” He described the experience of joining the band as a “whirlwind." "The stuff that we were coming out with, we were actually comfortable writing," he added. "It was in the strike zone of VH or the classic VH stuff. It was good.”

He noted that he retained a good relationship with his former bandmates, joking that he was available -- “cheap” -- for a reunion. “It’s a very tight circle,” he said. “But when I left the band, it wasn’t bad blood or anything. We just got separated and then hooked up.”

Cherone didn't want to comment on the recent rumors concerning Eddie Van Halen’s health, but he did say that "he’s okay. That’s a tight circle, so it’s all about loyalty. You’re not gonna get a lot out of me right now.”

I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

Gary was interviewed very recently and he said that Eddie's health isn't too bad and he's doing better. He also said he would not comment further because the VH camp is very private and keeps a lid on things and he didn't want to violate that trust. Interesting comment from him. At the very least he's had some sort of contact with Eddie. I don't know if they are actually working together but it was nice to hear that he's still in touch with them. I wouldn't mind at all if they worked together on something. I would love to hear it. The relationship with Roth is over, regardless of Eddie's health.

Hope this rumor is true. But I’m extremely doubtful (guess that’s just being a VH fan for so long). Would welcome hearing that second album with Gary someday.

Would be cool if Ed And Gary worked together again.. Gary has just finished vocals on the new Extreme album so he will be busy for a while once its released with touring.

From what I read and heard in interviews over the years, the follow up to Van Halen 3 seemed like it was going to sound more like classic Van Halen. It probably wouldn't have matter though, the damage had already been done. Hell, it might not have even mattered if Van Halen 3 sounded like that. Gary's a good singer, but I don't think that never really mattered in Van Halen. They just yanked around with the fans too much.

No way, you'd have to be second in line.

I won't be keeping my hopes up for any new release, though. I could see Gary staying in touch on a personal level or him also jamming around with Eddie, as both seemed comfortable with one another at the time of III and like to try out new stuff. But I - sadly - don't think we will get to hear anything of it. (Please prove me wrong.)

So we have a Pole and a German guy in the line. Maybe VH should go for an exclusive European release? I wonder if VH III sold better in Europe than in the US?
