Yeah, they're lucky to be alive.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

I loved the captions in Creem magazine, when they covered the MTV Lost Weekend:

The members of Van Halen were genuinely surprised that Devo had won the contest.

Watching this video makes me think how I still sometimes see the band today as those same guys from 1984 and then get disappointed when they are not. Just looking at the two guys who are the subject of the documentary makes clear that none of us are the same people from that era. A little bit depressing and a little bit comforting at the same time.

Also, when he mentions that his girlfriend asks if he's taking her as his guest, he laughs an incredulous "no?!" I wonder if its partly that he want to be a bachelor or the fact that he wouldn't want his GF anywhere near Dave?

Fun little documentary! The 80s were insane. I wish the filmmakers could've gotten permission to use real Van Halen music. Also, I wonder what would've happened if a girl had won?

Thanks James. That was awesome. I entered that contest. Back in the early 80's VH was the holy grail of concerts !! The 84 tour was just a party fest for me and my friends. Remember driving my 74 Malibu into NYC to see them at the Garden on that tour. Driving down 7th ave in Manhattan.... not going very fast.....smoking weed and drinking I crashed into the back of a car. It wound up being a rental car with this young guy and his girlfriend in it. I was able to bullshit my way out of it before the cops showed up. Gave him $20 and told him to put it through the rental insurance. True story !! Those were the days!!

I think the short-haired brunette with the hat in the promo was Dave's gf at the time, from seeing pics of them in the Amazon and what not. Had that bootleg for decades but it just resonated this time. Probably the clarity of the video. And, GEE, I wonder if they had a menage with the blonde?

    Great question hahahaa!

Also, I kinda dug the quasi-VH songs in that. They had, what, TJ, HFT, GGB, DDL, SS, and EWS?
