We still have to wear them up here and, get ready for this......Fauci isn't our National Doctor. It sucks to have to wear one in public. It's an inconvenience. But aside from the odd nut job who craves attention and just wants to complain (ie. our Premier's Daughter), we fucking manage.

Fauci aint the problem. The people and the media are.
The problem in the US is the messaging is piss fucking poor, not the least of which is that the CDC, this month, implied masks are more effective than vaccines and could easily be misinterpreted as safety for the wearer, not others.

They released a PSA (YouTube video MD8odL67F90) where the director says, "The evidence is clear. Masks can help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by reducing your chance of infection by more than 80 percent, whether it's an infection from the flu, from the coronavirus, or even just the common cold. In combination with other steps like getting your vaccination, hand washing, and keeping physical distance, wearing your mask is an important step you can take to keep us all healthy."

That would mean masks are more effective than two shots at this point, which is just nuts. Reason's Jacob Sullum has investigated and believes that based upon what the CDC has posted, the statistic comes from a laboratory study by Science Advances from September 2020.

The study is interesting, but they warn about the limitations of the lab setting. You can say masks are effective based upon it, but you can't quantify a real world impact because that isn't what it studied. The masks were 100% worn properly and the people just spoke, they didn't cough or sneeze.

Further, the way she puts it, it could easily perpetuate the ongoing myth that masks are supposed to protect the wearer when, in fact, they protect others from the wearer.

For the full time? I don't have time to delve into that but the CDC stated on May 13 you didn't need to wear masks anymore. Then reversed it on July 27. Since then sates have gone back and forth. The ones that continue to have a mandate regardless of vaccinated are less populated states however Illinois still has them. Just had 11k a day yesterday however sure that was due to being closed for holidays. Averaging 3-5k a day. Basically the same as Ohio which is a simialr state weather and population wise.

That's as close as apples and apples I can find. Oregon and Washington are not similar to Ohio. Talking about state wide mask mandate for everyone. When you look at Ohio and Illinois, the curves look the same. The rate of infection Considering how similar the states are with population density (Illinois 232/square mile, Ohio 286) There should be some difference due to the mask mandate. There isn't. Look at Florida and other similar states. They have surges and then they level off then decrease. This shouldn't happen if the only difference are mask mandates.

Not saying that people shouldn't wear masks but the idea that they are a silver bullet is kind of a stretch. I don't care who it is. Sorry if that's the case then Illinois and Ohio shoudl be different and they are not. If Illinois had a seat belt law and Ohio didn't, we should see vastly different stats. if Illinois had a motorcycle helmet law and Ohio only had it optional, then the head trauma should be different. Illinois and Ohio dont' have motorcycle helmet laws but NY does. 166 died in NY with motorcycles. In ohio 144. New York has 20 million and Ohio 11. So Ohio has a far higher death rate than NY and that likely is due to helmets.

I assume you will find in every state with a motorcycle law that their death rate is lower than those with no helmet law. 100 times out of a 100. Can anybody say the same for masks? I am open to it. Believe me I am but I fail to see the silver bullet that peopel say they offer. I really think our only protection is the vaccine and with that we have reduced effects. Not really different than why people say "get the flu shot" It doesn't prevent you from getting it but it makes it less severe if you do get it

This is why my opinions don't fit in with 95% :-)
No one is saying masks are a silver bullet. But they are helpful. Probably part of the reason Canada's death rate on this is 1/3 of America's. Big part? Don't know, but part of the reason.

We never stopped. Might be overkill but seems like a super cheap, super easy thing that can be done to keep numbers down.

To be fair, the CDC put out a PSA this month saying masks reduce the chances of infection by over 80%. This would mean they’re more effective than vaccines in real world studies.

In Wal-Mart, that probably would've been a good idea pre-pandemic.

Could be a lot of things. Vaccination rate. Obesity. Physical fitness. Population density. Average temperature. Could be masks. I am just using data. If they are everything that people say they are, then there would be zero deviation with their use Increased usage should ALWAYS result in decreased infections. It doesn't. Broken recorfd but helmets do. Seat belts do. Wearing condoms helpos with the transmission of STD"s No deviance there.

I know I am in the minority here. I don't care if one wears one. you can wear one having sex. You can wear while fapping with maple syrup. You can wear it in Trump country, Wal Mart, Biden Country, wherever. If it makes you feel safe, that is fine. I hate because I cannot breathe properly with one on.

If this virus looks at a vaccine that only was good for 6 months, what is it going to do to that cloth mask? The Unviersity of Berkley football team had 99% vaccine. Mask mandated and 44 get COVID. Peak physical condition.

Get the vaccine if you want to protect yourself because that really is the only weapon we have and that is only to minimize the effects of COVID> That's why we need to simply move on with life/ This isn't going away.

It is all of those things, masks is one of them. I dont know how America does it but it takes the simplest message of "wear a mask, it'll help fight a highly contagious disease" and turn it into a complex issue. It's not.

For everybody that don't wanna wear masks or question the efficacy of wearing them, there's a simple solution. Order groceries online and have them delivered. Walmart does that.

Go to work and then stay home. Do everything online.

I feel like that is the message people want for the ones who do want to wear masks in stores. They're perceived as the fearful ones, so they should be staying home and ordering online.

It's amazing how people being considerate of others has been portrayed as being fearful.

Right, like you and I can see what she is saying, although when you look into it it's a total and complete overstatement. NO matter, it is a terribly crafted PSA that doesn't even distinguish between the wearer getting protection versus protection from others wearing.

Masks should be voluntary. It's clear mandates don't work. There is no evidence mandating them has done so.

But it is also true that some masks in some situations provide some protection, just not nearly enough as the vaccine.
