I never understood the fascination that people have of countries and their outlook of the United States. I have lived overseas under a popular president like Clinton. Icelandics still hated us. Yet we invested so much into their country with NATO. Every commercial project had to be given to Icelandic contractors. Yet I heard how much of an asshole we were.

As DD said, its easy to have the great social programs when you are not footing the bill for your protection. Most of the world are like our beloved troll here who lives in his parents basement. Likely can buy certain gadgets, etc but is not picking up the mortgage. Not picking up the utilities. So you have a ton of discretionary income.

We have a different model than the rest of the world. We are not afforded the luxury of having a big brother protecting one. Plus when it comes down to it, every country should look after their own interests. Its why you have a freaking country.

Domination of international media is the reason. When you hold yourself out as leaders of the world then you will be judged by that standard.

To your main point on it being easier to pay for things when you spend less on defence there is something to the argument

This isn't a reply to Brook at all; I just think retractions should be amplified as loudly as the original.

Fox 17 Nashville has retracted this story and said there is no evidence of a cover up and the original story has been removed entirely from their website.

There is video evidence refuting the story and once the emails have the necessary context, it's clear there was no cover up.

COVID-19 emails from Nashville mayor's office show disturbing revelation

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The coronavirus cases on lower Broadway may have been so low that the mayor’s office and the Metro Health Department decided to keep it secret.

Emails between the mayor’s senior advisor and the health department reveal only a partial picture. But what they reveal is disturbing.

The discussion involves the low number of coronavirus cases emerging from bars and restaurants and how to handle that.

And most disturbingly, how to keep it from the public.

On June 30th, contact tracing was given a small view of coronavirus clusters. Construction and nursing homes were found to be causing problems with more than a thousand cases traced to each category, but bars and restaurants reported just 22 cases.

Leslie Waller from the health department asks, “This isn’t going to be publicly released, right? Just info for Mayor’s Office?"

“Correct, not for public consumption,” writes senior advisor Benjamin Eagles.

A month later, the health department was asked point blank about the rumor there are only 80 cases traced to bars and restaurants.

Tennessee Lookout reporter Nate Rau asks, “The figure you gave of 'more than 80' does lead to a natural question: If there have been over 20,000 positive cases of COVID-19 in Davidson and only 80 or so are traced to restaurants and bars, doesn’t that mean restaurants and bars aren’t a very big problem?"

Health department official Brian Todd asked five health department officials, "Please advise how you recommend I respond. "

The name at the top of the response is clipped off but you may find the answer unacceptable.

“My two cents. We have certainly refused to give counts per bar because those numbers are low per site.

We could still release the total though, and then a response to the over 80 could be because that number is increasing all the time and we don’t want to say a specific number."

Neither the health department nor the mayor’s office would confirm the authenticity of the emails but councilmember Steve Glover had a Metro staff attorney inquire. Here’s the official answer:

“I was able to get verification from the Mayor’s Office and the Department of Health that these emails are real,” the staff attorney answered.

Glover says this is Metro Nashville orchestrating a cover up.

"They are fabricating information," Glover said. "They’ve blown there entire credibility Dennis. Its gone, I don’t trust a thing they say going forward ...nothing."

Glover says he has been contacted by an endless stream of downtown bartenders, waitresses and restaurant owners asking why would officials not release these numbers?

"We raised taxes 34 percent and put hundreds literally thousands of people out of work that are now worried about losing their homes, their apartments...and we did it on bogus data. That should be illegal," Glover said.

Again, FOX 17 News wasn't told by the mayor’s office this wasn’t true. We were told to file a freedom of information act request.

Which allows us now to ask the question, why are you keeping this from us? Why would you even want to? Its just the real numbers and what could possibly be an honorable motive?

question #1: why do the Icelandics (or er) even need a military? Are they under threat by anyone? Do they have a navy??!

question #2: While in Iceland, did you hook up with Bjork? (sorry had to ask)

    Fuck'em.

Yeah, we've made a lot of mistakes, it's a complicated world. But if they think the world will be a better place with Putin and China in charge...have at it.

For example, our brothers to the North. How about we end our strategic military partnership with Canada and see how much money you guys can spend on social programs then? Or how our Navy is what keeps shipping lines open worldwide.

There is a lot of shit we do on a fucking daily basis, that WE fucking pay for, that benefits other countries. If you want to see how long it would take for Putin to go North across the North Pole and start taking over parts of Canada, just go it on your own without big brother backing you up.

No offense to everyone on here, but most of you have no fucking clue about how much the US does to keep you safe in your beds at night, and all I hear on here is bitching and moaning and telling us how fucking stupid we are.

And you know what, you might be right, we are stupid for continuing to help out a bunch of whiny bitches that can't stand on their own. It's time to start kicking countries out of our fucking basement. We've enabled you all long enough. You think you can do better? Fucking have at it.
    Amen.

Iceland is a very strategic island. It was essential during the Cold War. Due to the USSR's lack of southernly sea ports, we had a string up underwater microphones set up from Maine to Greenland, to Iceland, to the UK to Norway. No USSR submarine was able to leave or come back to the USSR without being detected. Secondly there was a air wing which was able to monitor bombers from the USSR. Protected Canada and provide early warning to the United States. Third P3 Orions were able to fly from there to also protect shipping lanes to those subs that were in the area. If a war ever had occurred between the Warsaw Pact and NATO, Iceland would have been attacked and defended.

When I was there they said there were more KGB spies in Iceland than anywhere else in the world except for Washington DC. We found bugs in our building set by Icelandic contractors.

Question 2. No I didn't hook up with Bjork but met her brother in a club with hopes of meeting her since she was in the same club. I did meet the prime minister of Iceland though

The whole elves joke in Eurovision is actually true over there. There is an interstate which heads right for a hill. Immediately goes around. Reason is that when constructing they were going to go over or through the hill but people protested saying the little people live there. So the government changed the route.
