All the old artists make a ton of cash in merchandise alone. Hard to imagine but teenagers and college kids buy a lot of it. Patches, Posters, shirts, Stickers...everybody from Bowie to Zappa is making cash.

The only problem with VH is they don't offer much on the retail front. They're not cashing in like the rest of them are.

LOL. They probably sell well. I wouldn't mind a pair myself.

My point is everything is only in their store. Everyone else sells stuff at brick and mortar outlets, as well as online. And they came out with new merch every year. Poster, stickers, shirts pins...
Most of VHs new stuff is EVH merchandise.

Next year they'll be tons of new merch from Elvis, Zeppelin, Floyd, Monroe....anyone classic. Van Halen...nothing. And it's been that way forever, pretty much. Even in their heyday there wasn't much available.

    "The Return Of Ted

September 27, 1999 - David Lee Roth has just informed The Inside that he is very pleased to have Ted Templeman as the producer for his next CD.

Dave is keeping his current band and road crew for the next album and tour, both out in early 2000. John Lowery will return as the main songwriting collaborator, although Bart Walsh and Terry Kilgore may also contribute to songwriting. Walsh and Kilgore are expected to handle all guitar duties.

Twelve songs have been written so far. Working titles include Stomping Grounds, Use My Hand, I Won't Look and China Town. There will also be a surprise cover song on the new album, which is yet to be titled.

The DLR Band will head back into the studio one week after the current tour finishes (the last date is at the House of Blues in Las Vegas on October 2.)"
It was completed in the earlier sessions and Dave drove most of the new material as the most active writer. HIS China Town was actually very different than the VH one. The riff Edward had was too good to not use and much of Dave's CT was able to be fitted and it just worked but a totally different riff. Dave's version was more mid tempo, the VH version is great but frankly just too fast paced to pull off vocally at his age consistently when control is a major issue. I believe the riff Ed had from the aborted second Gary album but not sure just fuzzy memory.

The Dave John 5 record contains none of that material from 99. It is all post ADKOT, well the last version I heard. He could have played around during the quarantine, don't know but doubt it.

Yes. The residuals they pull and will pull after they’re dead and buried could allow any of us to have a fair amount of spare change every quarter.

But Eddie and Dave don’t even get into the parking lot of the ballpark containing the names you mentioned.

Fifty years from now, very few will be buying VH albums.

And nobody will be buying Skyscraper.

Well, he could release it right about now, it's not like he'd have tons of competition in the rock world. He'd actually have none. We'd be all ears. Don't wait until the new AC/DC record drops...

Depends on the decision the band makes. The movie "The Doors" had a big part in revitalizing that band's career. Nobody was really talking about them in the 80s. "Wayne's World" helped Queen. There are certain decisions that can be made even after a band is no more that can change the course of musical history, and make people see a band in a different light.

Of course if you say "no" to everything, then nothing will happen, on that we agree.

If you look at Diamond Dave for what it is, a covers album, it's a fun listen.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

The Doors movie was made because of the resurgence of their popularity in the eighties due to their 1980 greatest hits album. It is one of the highest selling compilation albums in history.

The book got me into The Doors, "No One Here Gets Out Alive" I think it was called, something like that.

I didn't like the movie that much to be honest with you. I don't have much tolerance for idiots self destructing through drugs.
