Sammy and the Big Bopper

Wasn’t sure if this has ever been mentioned before (sorry if this is a duplicate post). Today is the Big Bopper's Birthday (he died along with Buddy Holly and Richie Valens - the day the music died).

I heard Chantily Lace today by the Big Bopper, and couldn’t help but notice some of the lyrics and vocal stylings Sammy borrowed from the Big Bopper. What do you think?

I never really heard the extent that Sam mimicked TBB before today, outside of the “Hello Baby”, but I guess I’m scrapping a barrel? Ok.

The point of Van Hagar was a nod to the Big Bopper? That’s new to me.

Exactly, I noticed a couple of other vocal “stylings” that sound like Sammy was inspired by the Big Bopper including the “Down The Drain” intro (Chicken Foot) and the “Hey waitress you got any specials here tonight Me and the fellas might be interested in” in GE off 5150.
