Exclamation PG&E to cut power for up to 800,000 for days for fire prevention due to high winds

I expect to see a surge in home solar panel installations after this.

If your panels are linked to the grid, and they very likely are, they won’t save you in a blackout.

Also, SCE is doing this, too. We just got a notice they’ll shut off our power in high winds.

There’s a reason they are doing this. Even if a power company in CA is in compliance with every safety regulation, yet in a fire their equipment is found to cause or contribute to the fire through no fault of their own, they can be held financially liable for all fire damages.

I’d do this, too, if I were them.

True, but if you have battery in line, then you can take power from that battery for something like a refrigerator.

    Fair.

Also, CA requires solar on all new houses starting in a few years.

We take homelessness so seriously here we keep passing laws to make housing more expensive and, with rent control, harder to come by.

I think the whole state should just not pay their electric bills next month.
