If your panels are linked to the grid, and they very likely are, they won’t save you in a blackout.
Also, SCE is doing this, too. We just got a notice they’ll shut off our power in high winds.
There’s a reason they are doing this. Even if a power company in CA is in compliance with every safety regulation, yet in a fire their equipment is found to cause or contribute to the fire through no fault of their own, they can be held financially liable for all fire damages.
I’d do this, too, if I were them.
