Default Eventide H9 vs the Line6 HX Stomp???

    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone here has experience with the Line6 HX Stomp or HX Effects? I was looking to buy the Eventide H9 for the obvious VH sounds, especially the 5150/OU812 and Balance tones. I then noticed that the HX Stomp was used by the guy from the "Helix hour' to demo the Balance tones.

What would the folks on this forum recommend? I would love to see the feedback if anyone has any. My ultimate goal is to determine if the HX stomp or HX effect boxes can duplicate the sounds of Van Halen like the Eventide H9 does.

My goal is to use this in the loop of my Marshall for effects only. This led me to the HX effect box but then I thought the HX stomp would be cool when practicing - I could use the HX stomp with my computer.

Never give a man options when it comes to guitar gear...makes me want to buy everything...lol.

It's tricky . If you are using it for effects only, get the H9.

I have a Helix Rack and a Eventide Pitchfactor and Timefactor. I used the eventides for years in the loop of a tube amp, and those served me well. I still use my two factors, albeit rarely, in an auxillary rack connected to my helix. The Helix can do the delays pretty well, but they definitely can't do the pitchshifting the eventide can. The eventide has what, five(?) different algorithms for pitch shifting, and the Helix has one that you're stuck with.

If you ever think you'll use the Helix for more than those effects, get the Helix. If you just want great pitchshifting and delay, get the H9. Heck, if you have an H9, you could get a helix stomp down the road to replace the Marshall if you wanted or needed to play direct.

Thanks Yaminub. Sounds like the H9 is the way to go for now.

I have the Gmajor II so I use those for delays and reverbs but could never get the detune to sound right. Now that I have a break from my band (drummer had knee surgery - getting older is not fun) I find myself revisiting my love for Van Halen. It makes feel like a kid again .
