Why 18 minutes.... because you get the maximum quality sound mastering at 18 minutes or less.

Not wanting to argue that point. Wwe're talking a Van Halen LP with the best possible sound. Here's an article that explains it:

If you insist on including ADKOT, that's okay, but i really wanted to make this thread about the Classic 6-pack...

The problem I've run into, since I don't have the physical LPs/CDs for each release, is determining the track time exactly. The recent re-mastered CD of the debut album for example lists the track length of ATBL as 3:47. Wikipedia lists ATBL as 3:50, and All Music Guide lists ATBL as 3:49. So I guess there's a margin of error, depending on what source one uses to measure the track length...

That's pretty close to what I would have. I'd have to find a way to get Romeo Delight and Tora Tora/Loss Of Control on there though. Probably dump I'm The One and GGB. Ugh.

I absolutely love Romeo Delight and I really like Tora Tora/Loss Of Control. I'm The One has to be on there. It exemplifies everything that made Van Halen so awesome and amazing.

Back in the day, I used to get heavily involved in math, when attempting to squeeze the most songs onto a 90 minute cassette for a band compilation. I'm quite out of practice for that now.
