I mean, the index of economic freedom has had Canada above the US for a while now.

Of course, “American Dream” tends to mean whatever the person arguing wants it to mean.

There are so many other things to look at, though.

"But I actually find it plausible that statisticians in Ottawa would do a more comprehensive and thus better job of comparing purchasing power in Canada and its far-and-away-largest trading partner than statisticians at OECD headquarters in Paris who are doing this for 50 countries."

Forgive me for taking into account the probable bias of those proud Canadians who came up w these numbers, vs the numbers of an inherently less biased third party.

At any rate, considering the trajectory that the U.S. has been on, open borders and the massive influxes of poor and uneducated peeps flowing in from our south border unchecked for decades, promotion of lazy entitlement lifestyles, massive and systematic welfare abuses, misuse of taxpayer monies, etc.. then it's no surprise that our overall net household incomes are getting dragged down.

Something else not noted that I'm interested in is how are households different between the two countries. More single parent in one? More two parent families? Etc.

Yes, I was going to mention also the destruction of the American family since the 60's/70's. Most US families these days are broken, single parents, so not near what the average household income would be if these fam's remained intact and would be therefor mostly two-income households. This plays a huge factor in these numbers.

Very true. I blame much of the abortion of marriage on the heals of the feminist movement. That changed the rolls of traditional marriage and of course higher education of women has allowed so many of them to walk out anytime they want because they have income to be self supported. Couple that with they still get half of all your assets and child support. I only did it once but so many men do it two- three times more with the results being even worse.

While it may be true, the weather still sucks.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I'd live in Upper Michigan if I could, but I can't take the winters.

It's a monster of an issue. I'm guessing it's considerably worse in the states than here but i could be wrong.

Even without dual income, having one parent at home to be with the kids full time has a huge impact for the betterment of the children (in most cases, yes there are nutbags).
