Best Sammy Hagar interview with positive comments about EVH

OK, so some of you have been asking for YEARS for a Sam interview where he's positive about Ed and doesn't complain, etc, etc.

That interview does exist, I've found it, it's from 2014, for some Utah station. Sam goes into the songwriting process with Ed in more details than I've ever heard. It's maybe the most music-oriented interview Sam has ever given. I think everyone will enjoy it:

That's cool, I'll watch the whole thing when I get home, surprised I haven't seen it before but it looks unfamiliar to me. Having said that, (and already regretting that I'm going to say this), I don't accept the assumption that Sammy is always bashing Eddie or the band, he's usually positive. Even though I know some people don't see it that way. Even his book is commonly referred to as "that book where he attacked Ed" when virtually all but one chapter is extremely positive about all things related to VH. But even if he does a long interview where he's either mostly positive or doesn't refer to VH the pull quote will still be something like "Hagar attacks Eddie!" . I can't count the number of times I've heard him say he regrets that they can't still be friends, and say that being in VH was the pinnacle of his career, and praising Eddie as a musician, etc. It's certainly 1000 times more than has happened in reverse. Hell, there are a bunch of examples where people still in the same band together attack each other more than he does.

I listened up till the part about 5150. Sam saying how Edward put his foot on his, and tapped out the song, is one of the coolest tidbits from that era. I have never heard him mention that. Imagine the energy that was in that room at that time.

Gotta take a break, but I'm definitely going to finish listening to this interview. Young man pulled some groovy stuff out of the old man.

This interview will even satisfy the Dave crowd, I'm betting Brooks, JD and Show will be onboard too!

Yes 5 years ago which is how old this is he was still lobbying for a tour so he was complimentary. It has been made clear it is not gonna happen so now recent interviews are about he was bigger, no respect for Dave's art, and fyi that art only sold because of him blah blah so great 5 years ago he felt like complimenting would help whoopie

He is so transparent and opportunistically changes his tone that good or bad anything he says Van Halen wise is just white noise. He has a brilliant career and when he speaks about 4 of the 5 decades it is awesome. When he speaks on the one decade in VH it is meaningless either way to me and reflects his current mood or whatever. Whatever, overall he comes off badly so often talking VH it just all gets tuned out good or bad none of it feels sincere. It is stark because he comes off sincere on his other 4 decades which he does vary on from interview to interview. Hard pass at this point on Sam talking VH, lost credibility with me

I disagree here, because how many anti Roth rants did the band make over the years since '85, and how many shots did Roth take at VH since that same year? TONS!!!!!! Then in '96 when Dave gave Eddie that hug (that Eddie clearly wanted no part of!) and folks lost their sh*t. Or during the interviews for the 2004 tour when fans of that former era were stoked.

These guys make or break on whatever side of the bed they (Eddie?) wake up on. Remember Dave saying (in 2015) that being onstage with Eddie were the best moments of his life? I always pictured Steve Vai etc. thinking "Hmmm. You said WE were the best...."

Dave doesn’t have the history with Vai that he does with Eddie.

This is a five year old version of an interview Sam gives from time to time. We know how Sam feels about everything and everybody.

It was cool to hear some of the inspirations for a lot of the catalog. I knew about Bone being a working title for OU812, but had never heard Al suggested, Nightstick.
