    Default Edward's Bare Naked Guitars

    For a long time I've been particularly intrigued by Edward's un-finished guitars, much more than anything with stripes on it. It started when I bought the Guitar World with Edward holding the Dragon/Snake on the cover, from my neighborhood White Hen Pantry, late 1980ish.
    Inside the article was the Pick Ax picture, and my first glimpse of many of his other guitars, including the thick bare one on the floor;

    This guitar also appears to be the same as this one from the WACF session shots;

    Many years later I learned of the Rude guitar, and developed a hunch that it was originally the thick mahogany one that I had started referring to as the Hog, but could not confirm the slightly off angle jack plate that the Rude has. The Rude also seems to have a slimmer waistline, which could have easily been done with a bandsaw, but the angle of the jack plate was a telltale sign.

    More recently, I found this pic and mistook it as the Hog;

    But it is clearly not the Hog, because of the volume knob location, nor is it the pre Rude, because of the jack angle. Note: this bare guitar has a pick up ring, fine tune Floyd, and a 23 fret neck.
    It appears to be this one;

    Then I found this pic, and it seems to have a smaller horns, and the Dano neck;

    Then I found this one, which appears to be the Hog, sitting right next to the Rude;

    Currently, I am for the idea that the Rude is the Rude, and Edward had a bunch of slightly different bare guitars, and I'm still somewhat confused, but mostly my own doing.

    Here's the Rude for comparison's sake;

    Note: Different jack plate angle, slimmer waist, pick up further away from the Floyd.

    I think the guitar next to the Hog in the second to last, B&W photo is actually the Unchained/Circles guitar and not the Rude, given the "Bye See Ya Later" lettering.

    I want to say this one became the Rude, after some bandsaw waist slimming.
    It has the wider space between the Floyd and the pick up, and what appears to be a Dano neck, but I just can't confirm the odd jack angle that the Rude has.

    Maybe someone has a better picture angle of this one.

    That Boogie Bodies guitar is amazing.

    It's like the N4 before the N4.

    The guitar in front of the bye see you later guitar has a traditional tremolo on it. And no locking nut.

    Lol, well, we sit up high at the back of the stage and get to see all you guitar players fucking up during the gig. And we can intentionally change the tempos during songs just to mess with you, too!

    One of my best (and late) buddies, and drummer of our old band, used to talk about this guy named Charlie all the time, 'the best phucking drummer he ever knew'.
    One day he dropped by Charlie's house to cop some drum riffs, and Charlie wasn't playing the drums anymore.
    He was playing the phucking guitar now...and was 'pretty phucking good at it too'.

    I think it's cool that JD noticed that I phucked up, but that's probably because I'm biased, being a halfbreed guitarist/drummer myself

    Edit: I guess having bass tabs on UG would actually make me a triple breed, LOL!

    Yes, I did notice that, but the pick-up and knob appear to be in the proprer Rude position.
    The Floyd would have been installed after this pic was taken

    Ditto that, and that's part of my current theory;

    Edward used the Shark on VHII, and attempted to fix it's W. Destroyer lost tone, along with Ted during post production, which Ed despised doing.
    Lesson learned.
    The new Floyd in the Bee was too "brittle bright" for the next album WACF, so he (and maybe Floyd) came up with the Hog idea.
    It was better, but not quite what he wanted to hear.

    So for the next album FW, he stuck with the thick Mahogany Hog concept, but this one had the pick up mounted a little closer to the neck, for just a little more warmth.
    That makes me wonder if the one without a Floyd, that fudd pointed out, eventually became the Rude.

    Dang, it would be great to have a few beers with Rudy one day.
