Default Dirty Movies vs Sinner's Swing!

How about a thread with no potential for a Dave vs Sam debate? Which of these back-to-back tracks from side one of Fair Warning do you prefer and why?

That one is super close. "Dirty Movies" by a hair. But both are easily in my top 20 all time favorite VH tunes.

That terrific drum intro with Ed's "chirpy" guitar effects and his use of the slide for the catcall whistle help give DW the nod, barely.

Eddie's killer guitar riff gives SS the slight edge over DM for me.

DM for the opening jungle, SS for the street feel. Put them together on a 45 rpm and it'll sell like hot cakes.

Two of the best back to backs in the discography, as are AFU and CW in the other thread, IMO. Cant go wrong picking any of them.

Love his ascending solo in it, too. That truly is a prime example of CVH(particularly Ed here) sounding like a speeding train coming sooooo close to going off the rails but still managing to hang on going around the corner.

I can still remember exactly where I was the first time I heard both of them way back on Friday, April 24, 1981.

I'm always a little surprised there isnt more love for the drum tones on FW. I think after WACF, its my favorite drum sound on an album for Al. The first album they recorded after he acquired his 1980 Tama Rosewood snare(filmed in LWAN) and really that first taste of the famous AVH snare tone that drummers either really love or really hate. HAIL being the best example on FW of having that snare tone.

STIL he really has his snare tuned up super HIGH, but it fits the tune. PCTS is the opposite, but again fits the vibe of the tune perfectly.

The B&W MONSTER Ludwig kit is probably still my sentimental all time fav AVH kit, although the old hardware pales in comparison to the awesome rack systems of his modern kits. Cool fact, it was actually a Ludwig Vistalite kit, a la Bonham, but was painted solid B&W.

I wonder how many of the tracks he recorded with the Rosewood snare on this album?

Sinner's Swing and it's not close for me. Dirty Movies is okay, but Sinner's Swing rocks, and I prefer that.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -
