I would be far more concenred with you or your kids being on Tik Tok concerning data than Twitter. I do know this site is one thing.

Twitter will be fine. Reason why people are pissed is that the censorship will be lifted. I know with additional free speech comes more concerns but that's our society. For example, I love the the site Babylon Bee. It was banned. Its a satire site. It was finally allowed back on Twitter. That should never have happened. That's why people are bitching is because they want Twitter to be an echo chamber.

Today is November 21st and the world still has not ended due to Musk owning Twitter. I still got my sports feeds from yesterday.

They shouldn't be so pissed.... The Left has MANY echo chambers they can turn to....

He’s getting there, which is good. This is a good decision. The verification needs to remain for reasons I stated below. Whatever the $8 thing is needs to be something else.

My only issue with what he has done is messing with the verified user thing. That exists for people to know a well-known person is who they say they are.

The second installment of Elon Musk's so-called "Twitter Files" shed light on the company's practices of secretly "blacklisting" certain tweets and users.

"A new #TwitterFiles investigation reveals that teams of Twitter employees build blacklists, prevent disfavored tweets from trending, and actively limit the visibility of entire accounts or even trending topics—all in secret, without informing users," journalist Bari Weiss began her thread on Thursday.

"Twitter once had a mission ‘to give everyone the power to create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers.’ Along the way, barriers nevertheless were erected," Weiss wrote.

Twitter had every right to block whoever they wanted. It’s a fucking social media site. I think people are really confused about free speech on the web.

You don’t have it here. You don’t have it on Facebook, you don’t have it on anything. Nor should you.

Unfortunately, Twitter has allowed a bunch of horrible people to continue to post no matter who owns it, so who the fuck cares about what they suppressed. They didn’t suppress nearly enough as far as I’m concerned. There’s still a shit load of dangerous people posting on there and telling lies and other things that are very dangerous. Twitter didn’t give a flying fuck about people like Louis Farrakhan posting on there. And they still don’t.

You want to exercise your free speech? Go out on the street and tell random strangers your stupid ideas. Enjoy yourself.

LOL. I like both Taibbi and Weiss, honestly. Both are frequent guests and friends of one of my favorite politics and media shows. But what she’s reporting…is what Elon Musk announced as a “new” policy last month. “Freedom of speech, not freedom of reach,” he said. That’s “shadow banning” with marketing.

I guess this is different because it’s now him deciding what is “hateful” or “negative?” But the policy is the same.

Also, Weiss misrepresents some things in this by being selective. Twitter had a specific definition of shadow banning that is more excessive than what they engaged in.

The problem is Musk has chosen two reporters (who are really good!) but don’t know social media well enough to know that nothing here is revelatory or covered up by Twitter.

Anything Musk does is no different than what they did before. Now it’s just him making arbitrary decisions on what he approves of. And he still allows a bunch of disgusting human beings on there who have no business posting their thoughts anywhere on the Internet, but are freely allowed to.

Twitter was already a shithole. Now you have a guy who wants to make it even worse. If that’s even possible.

I will say Musk’s transparency efforts are appreciated. Like, we only have a few examples of things, so it’s hard to know the full picture. At this point we are just taking his word for it that it was so slanted.

At the same time, he’s introducing a way for you to know your account status at all times, if your reach has been reduced, why it was reduced, and how to appeal, which is good!

I totally agree. Like I said, we got passing mention the White House had avenues to ask for tweet deletion and did so and Twitter complied and then—poof—gone with nary another mention or even one example. Which is strange.

The thing is, Twitter isn't reducing, say, the influence of Mitt Romney's tweets. Or most right wingers.

It's Charlie Kirk and Dan Bongino and those people.

Not that long ago, it wouldn't be an outrage on the right for a platform to reduce the influence of wild, paranoid, anti-vaccination conspiracy theories.
