Post A Different Kind Of Truth "Remaster"

    Hello again,
I would first like to say thank you for all the positive feedback on my re-do of the Van Halen III album. There were a few requests I received to do something similar with A Different Kind Of Truth. I was busy the past few days putting this together for y'all. I expanded the tracks to lower the amount of compression, then lowered the level of the bass in the mix (contrary to VHIII where the bass is inaudible, the bass here overpowers the rest of the mix). In addition, I toyed with various features to try and give the album more of a 'live' feel akin to earlier albums. Once again, it's a quick few edits I did on Audacity, and it's as much as I could do without the multitracks.

    Hope you enjoy!

P.S. In the coming weeks I'm going to be travelling and will need something to do on the plane rides. If you guys have any recommendations of albums or demo tapes you'd like me to try and bring the best out of, feel free to let me know.
There's a thin line between genius and insanity. I like to dance on it.

"If you want to be a rock star or just be famous, then run down the street naked, you'll make the news or something. But if you want music to be your livelihood, then play, play, play and play! And eventually you'll get to where you want to be." RIP EVH

Give OU812 a "remaster" treatment. If there is anyway to bring the bass section up without muddying up the mix, that record would sound so much better. That record needs the most help if you ask me...

Can you remaster Leppards High n Dry? Badly needed.

I have the Japanese remasters of 5150 and OU812 but would still love to hear another go at it.

you can preview pretty much the whole thing on youtube. The mix is better. I noticed somethings I didn't in the past.

Huh. Just sampled some of that there. I think I can hear some bass differences on FSG, Cabo, and AFU. More than 5150. wonder if it's worth 60 bucks...

I had the Forever Young cd version of OU812 on last night... Expensive? Yes, but I don't regret buying it.

    To the OP;

I'd like to hear a more guitar/less keyboard version of The Ultimate Sin album, like Jake E. Lee recently talked about.

I think the only way to really make an impactful difference and get OU812 where it should be sonically is to get a hold of the master tracks and actually reMIX them.

It is still the best Sam era album.

Easily the best Sam Halen record.

After all these years, it’s shaken down to be my third favorite VH album out of all of them, I think.

I'm still partial to 5150, but I love the diversity of OU812. It sure would have been nice if Mike's bass amp would have been plugged in …

5150 gets knocked down for the putrid WCTBL and LWI. Rest of the album is pretty damn good though.

Hard to disagree, so I won't. OU812 is a kick-ass rock album in its own right.

To me, all the Sammy era records are sentimental, and both 5150 and OU812 get high praise!
