I remember the pre show press conference for that Australian festival a few years ago. Dave dominated it with his one liners. Even Tyler couldnt keep up and a few times he looked over at Dave in wonderment.

I think lately a lot of us have looked at Dave in wonderment. Not necessarily in a good way.

I swear it was like Dave was the only one who wanted to promote it.

After reading Tyler's book, I now understand why all five Aerosmith guys were there.

Brad, Tom and Joey call themselves the "LI3," meaning "Least Interesting Three." Steven says they've always resented being in the background, so apparently now in their twilight years Steven is letting them have their moment speaking for the band. I saw some Today Show interview where Joey tried to take the lead and it rapidly became clear why Steven is the frontman. As Steven said in his book, "Go cry in your Ferrari!"

But anyway, that's why they all showed up and only Dave was there for VH.

Half an hour after I hit submit I got what you meant. Yes, from what I heard that whole event was put together by an inexperienced promoter in a sparsely populated area, and no one drew well. A fiasco. The press conference was no doubt to scrape for ticket sales, and then the Boston marathon bombing happened that morning.

Said it in the other thread, had no idea Steven Tyler was a crazy as DLR.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

A man's rights rests in three boxes: the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box

Yep. The promoter was a first timer. The venue was a shithole on the outskirts of Sydney. From memory, it was found the promoter had links to underworld crime figures here. They put bands on the bill without contacting their management. When it was re-ticketed I got suspicious. Baby Animals were pulled from the bill, then added back in, and pulled again. Then someone else took over promotion. Then Aerosmith were added as they weren't selling very well but were playing on a similar date.. So the Aerosmith fans were re-directed to an outdoor festival, which is not everyone's preference, particularly older fans. The weather in the morning of the gig was putrid. We stayed in our motel room as long as possible before heading out there. After Aerosmith, lots of people cleared out, as that's who they'd come to see. VH hit the stage at least 30mins late, if not more, so when it came time for improvs, they simply didn't have time before the sound curfew kicked in (it's Sydney, they have fucking curfews for everything), so we missed out on that stuff.

We still had a great day, we were always going to regardless, but I could completely understand people being pissed off and either not attending or leaving early.

I loved seeing VH and we were fortunate enough to be in front of Ed and got some stage amp sound, so the sound was decent, but apparently back further wasn't good at all.

All in all, I guess it wasn't 1982!
