    Default Floyd Rose screws

Any particular reason the front 6 screws(on the left) have to be in their exact spots? Does it effect anything or is it just the preference. I do know the original frankie only had the low E in the 2nd slot and the rest were up front.

Yes they are there for the intonation on the guitar. If you start moving them you’ll start affecting the intonation on the strings.

Can’t seem to find anything about it online. Would you mind going into detail about how they affect intonation? Like whats the difference between how the come factory made like in the picture, or just having a row in the front slots

They shorten or lengthen the string.

If you change gauges or mess with those screws it will affect the intonation of the guitar. You'll get it in tune for open chords and then barre chords at the 12th fretboard will be off if those screws aren't in the right position.

So they should be set from the factory to be properly intonated with the gauge of strings it came with from the factory.

You would use a tool like this to move the saddle back and forth to get your 12th fret harmonic for each string using a tuner. When you have it dialed in, set the screw to lock the saddle.

I've eyed these gadgets many times on eBay. I guess I should finally pull the trigger on one, much like those big brass block upgrades!

Just in case you're still not 100% on this, these screws are what holds the string bridges in place. If you loosen them the saddle can be adjusted forward or backward, depending on how the intonation is set. Intonation is how well the string is in tune up and down the neck. You can have an open string ring true, but if the saddle is too far back or forward the string will be sharp or flat at the 12th fret (and in various stages along the fret board). Once you lock in it ringing true at the 12th and open, then you lock that screw into place.

I should note that it took me about 6 years of playing guitar before I learned this
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

Just search "Intonation Floyd Rose" or something like that on youtube and a bunch of videos explaining it will pop up.

When I bought my first guitar with a Floyd, I set mine up like Eddies Franky from the Us Festival poster I had - still have... I thought if its good enough for the Franky, Its good enough for my Kramer... Ironically, it was pretty damn close too.

I got that device and I must say it's pretty clever. Now to intonate some guitars.
