Sammy covers Pink Floyd live!!! (great version of Comfortably Numb)
Now this one is really out of left field for him vocally, even though I know he's a Floyd fan. He does a great job with Nancy Wilson on the background vocals.
Satch is spot on, but that will surprise on one.

Sam was horrible. Looked like he was reading a teleprompter. Happy new thread!

I thought he did great on the choruses. Satch rocked the solo on an accoustic. Sam took some risks with this, I like that.

The beginning was rough, but it got better and better. It was a tough song for Sammy, but he pulled it off. I love the Satriani acoustic solo too.

I couldn't get through it, it's just not Sam's type of thing.

I think what's cool about this is that it's how they started off the show, as opposed to it being the encore.

There's so much more to Sammy than the "I can't drive 55" Sammy. He's always had a different side of him where he pushes the enveloppe, where he experiments. I think Satch brings that side to the forefront and he should work more with him. It's easy for Sammy to fall into a routine, play the same setlist, etc. He's closed his shows with "Rock and roll" from LZ for the last 30 years, pretty much. Hope to see more of the "experimental" Sammy.

Couldn't agree more. Sammy is definitely at his most edgy and 'new' with Satriani. It's why I love CF so much. Not because half of Van Halen plays in it, though that's a bonus, obviously. It's because the chemistry created what could be considered some of the very rare old school four piece NEW hard rock from old school artists from our era since the late 90's.
Slash has done a fair job of the same with the Conspirators, I should add.
But yes, love when Sam changes it up. I wish he'd do more blues fusion...or cover more outside the box stuff like this, outside of Zep or the Who or the usual stock. Love to see him cover some Police tracks, or some Yes. Some Queen deep cuts might be good too...Hammer to Fall, maybe, or It's a Kind of Magic. Or Princes of the Universe.
Haha, I was gonna say some Rush...but I honestly don't think anyone can cover Rush adequately. Rush is uncoverable.![]()
