    Default My Led Zeppelin Covers!

Since we've been talking about LZ a lot on the forum, I decided to post the covers I've done. They all have backing tracks, which vary from song to song. Some are good, and some aren't, but they work well enough. Since all the songs are in standard tuning, I just used my '96 Peavey Wolfgang on everything since that and my EBMM are the only guitars that I have that are in standard tuning. I used Guitar Rig for the tones, and I really didn't go for Led Zeppelin tones, because they're actually fairly hard to get on a modeler. They don't sound right, so I just tried to get close.

I recorded all the guitar parts and tried to do the songs like the album. The only liberty I took was on "Ramble On" where I soloed over some of the outro because it goes on a long time. Other than that, I kept it very close to the recordings.

"Whole Lotta Love" is kind of a bastardized version of how they did it live and the studio one. It's actually a pretty cool backing track I found. I don't like that long crazy middle section anyway, so I cut it some to make the song shorter and just hit the key points.

    Enjoy!

    Black Dog
Good Times, Bad Times (for some reason Soundcloud says there's a copyright violation on this, so had to put in on my server.)

Okay, Living Lovin' Maid kicked ass!

    Great tone.
The only genre I really know is Van Halen.

    Great Job, Brett!
Hard for me to pick a favorite cuz they all sound spot on.

Great job on the outro to Black Dog.

I know the riffs to some of these but never learned any fully. I need to get on that.

    Default My Led Zeppelin Covers!

    Thanks guys! Really appreciate it!

I think the hardest thing I had to learn was the outro to Black Dog. Iíve never actually sat and learned that correctly until I recorded this, and it was a lot of work actually to get the swing of his playing right. Thatís one thing people donít realize about Page. He has a really unique way of phrasing passages, itís very cool. Itís like Ed with that weird timing. I felt really accomplished when I got that thing down and recorded correctly.

Second would be the solo to Nobodyís Fault But Mine which again is another one that has some really interesting phrasing and isnít nearly as easy as it may seem.

All of these I knew the basic riffs to, but I never really sat to work the solos out. Except The Ocean, which I knew really well because Iíve played that one live before, but I never actually played the outro chords, just the lead notes. It was cool to hear that all come together.

Iíll post Over the Hills and Far Away when I finish it. Itís getting there but again that solo section is kind of weird, and it has that weird ping-pong effect going on that makes it hard to follow.

Yeah, I tried the BD outro once.
    I was not getting it.
The way he picks it too. It's almost like he's stuttering in spots. Some of those up and down runs just didn't sound right when I did them. It was like it was too clean sounding.

Like you said, the swing.....I just gave up. LOL.
I realized this is gonna take a few weeks of this and nothing else. One of these days I'll give it a real attempt.

Same thing happen when I tried the Since I've Been Loving You solo.

Oh I did cheat sort of on Ramble On. Thatís not a real acoustic. I didnít like the way my acoustic sounded, so I found an acoustic simulator patch for Guitar Rig and used my Wolfgang. But I think it sounds pretty convincing as an acoustic.

Haha! What was actually helpful was watching some dudes on YouTube playing it correctly to at least see the fingering and swing. I also took it in sections to learn and didnít move on until I could play each section perfectly. So it took a little time. It was a test of patience for sure I wonít lie to you. I think it took me maybe four days to really feel comfortable with it, but I was working on it a lot.

Yep Since Iíve Been Loving You is another one that has driven me nuts before. I need to sit and crack that one too.

    Thanks, Brett. That's good advice.
I think that was my mistake. I was trying to learn it all and then work on it. With so many parts it's better to work each section, like you said.

    And yes...a lot of patience.
